  7. Paul, what a great day and pleasure it was to meet you, Jon and Mat today. Did you manage to get to Schwartz bros (not Honey!) for the finest burgers in Bath after I left you? I hope so, cos they are something special. Enjoying the pics you've posted of today. I meant what I said about a couple of days work in a week or so. We'll arrange a date some time this week... As you enjoy the country, i'm sure you'll love the house and grounds where the job is at. Can't wait to try the new boots on. Cheers mate.

  10. Just want to send a big thank you to those who made it happen for me today. Firstly thanks to Andy Collins (and good to meet you today on the Arbtalk stand) for linking me up with Silky Fox, thanks to Silky Fox for hooking me up with Mendiplogs and of course a big thank you to Mendiplogs for getting me and my travelling companions to the APF and back safely in his lovely A6!!! A great day with great people. Cheers all, Marc
  11. Hi Jon, Bit late now I am sure, but what time are leaving Frome tomorrow? I knew I should have checked arbtalk this sarvo. I will check on here throughout the early hours of tomorrow morning to see if it is still possible. Be good to meet other tree folks too. Cheers, marc
  12. Or possibly Saturday.
  13. Hi guys, Weeks ago I booked in a 3 day take down job and without realising it was during APF.....Anyhow today we came across a wasp nest 20' up in the trunk which has put a halt on proceedings....To get to the point, this leaves me tomorrow to be able to go to APF. Is there anybody going from this area who I could get a lift with and share fuel money or vice versa? I live in Shaftesbury in North Doset. Hopeful thanks in advance Marc
  14. awesome seeing them in action. They have metal detectors within that detects nails and the like which can be found within the trunk. If it detects anything metal, bells sound and the machine automatically stops. Pretty cool!
  15. You will need an FC forestry mensuration book (blue book). It is all in there how to calculate volumes of standing timber etc. However if you have not done this before, it is very very confusing. Idealy need somebody to go through it with you in person. Good luck, I don't think I can remember now as its been about 15 yrs!
  16. Is that Danny Upton's chipper?
  17. Quote 'Freshly cut large trees can be used for construction'. True, but bears no resemblance to this pile of rubbish cypress!! 'Over 5 tons', lucky if there is 2 ton. 5 tons of bull**** spilling out his/her mouth. Fair play though, nearly as good as the standing birch tree for sale a few days ago!!
  18. I do the same, drive to site in shorts and trainers, carrying out tasks I probably shouldn't in this atire. Just have to take a bit of extra care. Easy done though, like chucking ladders on the roof of the motor then getting side tracked and thinking in the back of your mind, 'must tie those down before I drive off!!'.
  19. Defo dress smart with ppe in motor. Make sure your ppe is clean and in good nick
  20. Similar to my first harness, though I didn't have the luxury of the saddle, just a waist harness and 2 lanyards.
  21. Hey Silky, I know that pub 'The Botanist', played cricket for the Barmy Army several times over the road on Kew Green. Nice place to chill with a pint, especially when the sun is out!
  22. Trust are normaly pretty reasonable
  23. aluminium is not the only type of ladders available. Wooden and fibreglass ladders are fine to use around overhead power lines. No one said anything about aluminium!!!
  24. sound advice
  25. Either you like ladders, or you don't, simples. The exercise argument is bull though, we get plenty of exercise in this job anyhow and you could always make other aspects of it harder or more strenuous if you so desired. Not for me though, I always look for the easiest way to do every job and if that means using ladders whats the big deal. How about instances where you cannot/shouldn't use a throw line i.e. like near powerlines?
