  1. I am the current subbie for Peter but am leaving for a full time role. Peter is a great guy to work for, he's knowledgable, experienced and patient. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to get their foot in the door and gain some valuable groundsman experience. It's fair to say I wouldn't be moving on without the experience and skills I have gained by working with Peter. Matt

    What to wear?

Gents, I am pleased to report that I was offered the role today and have taken it. I'd just like to offer thanks to those who helped, I've no doubt my attire had a positive impact at my interview. Cheers Matt

    What to wear?

Awesome, thanks for the tips chaps. I'll stick me work gear in the back of my van and dress as suggested. Matt
  5. Firstly, please forgive me if this seems naive but keep in mind I am still relatively new to this industry. I'm hoping for nothing but friendly and helpful replies! I've been self employed for 5 months as a Groundie and tomorrow I have my first interview for a Groundsman position, trouble is I am at a loss as to how to dress! In my previous life normal attire for such an occasion would always require me to be suited and booted but the guy I work for most the time has suggested this might be too much. Do I go in shirt and trousers? Do I go in smart casual? Please help! Cheers Matt
  6. Hi All, Just on the lookout to keep my diary full for the coming weeks, including Saturdays if needs be. I've been a groundie for 4 months now and have been busy gaining valuable experience with various Tree Surgeons throughout Suffolk. I hold my CS30/31 tickets, I'm currently qualified as a full first aider and I have my own saw and PPE and would like to keep the flow of work going if at all possible. I'm honest, hard working and committed to developing myself in this industry, if I can be of any use to you please PM me. Cheers Matt
  7. I've only been a groundie for 3 months and I am paid a different day rate by different people. The first guy I worked for was paying me £80 a day and all I did was chip, refuel his saws and tidy up. I work for a friend of mine who has his own business and I fell small trees and chip, again for £80 a day. The guy I'm currently getting a fair bit of work from pays me £50 a day but I'm hedge trimming, felling, chipping and he's offered to teach me to climb. Whilst he isn't paying me as much as the others I'm gaining more experience from him and learning more. He has told me he will pay me more as I get more experience which I'm happy with, the way I figure it is as a groundie you get what you deserve.
  8. Bump... Still on the lookout, currently getting 2-4 days work a week, looking to gain more experience, willing to travel and work weekends. PM me if I can be of use! Cheers Matt
  9. If I had more than 2 months experience I'd already be packing my bags...
  10. Still on the search for work if anyone has anything. I've continued gaining groundsman experience but work is sporadic. I have my own saw and PPE and am willing to travel.. Cheers Matt
  11. Rather embarrassingly, the chain is quite blunt, better improve my sharpening skills and sooner rather than later. Thanks for the advice anyway guys Matt
  12. The chain is relatively new, ive only needed to sharpen it a couple of times. I've got a spare chain (brand new) that I'm going to stick on and do some logging with, process of elimination... Saw seems to be fine with cutting even when smoking, doesn't slow down, just bloody smells! Matt
  13. After logging this afternoon it only seems to smoke on hard wood, I'll give the chain a proper sharpening session tomorrow and hope that resolves it. Matt
