  1. Thank you David, its good to have a second opinion on this. This is all interesting stuff and an area i wish to learn more about. So the underside and rim needs to be white for it to be alive?
  2. Could someone advise me here. It has been suggested by another tree surgeon that the fungal bracket lower down the tree i.e. the picture with my hand in shot, is dormant, dead or similar though the one higher in the tree i.e. the shot with my boot in view, is live. Can anybody confirm this please?
  3. Completely agree with you there Mark. Like you say, the increase in weight would not be that noticeable.
  4. C'mon husky and stihl, get it together!!
  5. It would be well within their interests to, i'm sure that they would sell as many if not more than the regular non heated ones. If the price is right of course!!
  6. Wish they'd start putting heated handles on the toppers!!
  7. Thanks Paul, some really interesting information there. The tree is very mature, dbh 1.5ft and probably a good 80ft tall. There are several houses within falling distance and one in particular that the tree towers over. Here are several more photos. It is the larger of the 3. Also, there is a bracket (the one with my hand in frame) approx 15' up the trunk and looks like it could be dead or dormant, is this possible? And the other bracket is much higher approx 30' in the tree (one with my boot in the shot) which looks living.
  8. Thank you David. Are they both as detrimental to the trees health?
  9. I wanted to check with others that this is ganaderma. It is located on beech.
  10. If its just 3 teeth then you do not need worry about bringing the rest down to match the length.
  11. Apart from A clearly unsafe tree to climb aside (which are very few and far between), why is it deemed safer to use a mewp, than climb???
  12. All your profits would go in the fuel tank haha. Handy bit of kit though.
  13. Completely agree with you Steve. I have noticed also that alot of climbers now, will refuse to climb a tree because they deem it unsafe. Whereas 10 - 15 yrs ago you wouldn't have thought twice about it because mewps where generally not an option. Its funny how the unclimbable trees are the ones covered in ivy!!
  14. I think you are bang on the money there, its about what i pay. It will of course depend where u are working i.e. london. Your hours are sensible also.
  15. I've been doing those deep sink cuts for years to save the aid of wedges or similar. People i have worked with said i should not do it like that!! So its nice to see someone else doing it, cheers:thumbup:
  16. Very odd. Never heard of a case like this before. As others have said, pictures will be a great help.
  17. Nothing like having littlein with you to get a job. I never used to but do think it is acceptable these days (phoning Sundays that is).
  18. That was handy having those fence panels missing. Love doing birch, so quick and easy.
  19. Surely the 'BMW drivers' post should also have been removed.
  20. Thank you for responses. Edible is it, shame i dont like funghi. Harmful to the tree i presume, i'm guessing it is this that has killed one side of this mature h chestnut?
