  1. Sold a 372xp with a Meteor piston in it a couple of months ago and it's used professionally every day with (AFAIK) zero issues.
  2. I've used a couple of AIP pistons in 026/260s now, and they seem to be excellent. Indian made. They have a website that has full/proper listing of what's available. Meteor is probably still the best bet, but these AIP pistons are definitely worth a look if they are available to you locally or via eBay.
  3. Finished cleaning and honing a 346 which had been run on neat petrol. Meteor piston in and showing 170psi warm! Happy! Cannot thank Spud enough for any number of cylinders I've salvaged now because of his (and others) excellent advise. DIY exhaust gaskets. Worth doing? If so, what to use? I seem to buy loads, so thinking maybe I should just make my own. Gotta be suited to high temps though I spose so random cylinder gasket type stuff not so good?
  4. 357 and most of a 346. Questions/observations about meteor cylinders (not pistons). I've used a couple now. 036 was good (better than anything else I've seen for that saw). 357xp is absolutely superb; really neat and compression (with meteor piston) after running for about 2 minutes and a very rough tuning is showing about 175psi. Has anybody had a look at or used the 'big bore' Meteor kit for the 346/350 etc? I assumed it to be open port (as are most of the 346 aftermarket options) but I happened upon a photo that makes it look more like the original 346 cylinder (closed). Anybody had a look/used one?
  5. For a 'big' service before I sell a saw on (assuming no other damage/repairs already done) I do: Carb rebuild (carb kit is under a tenner). Fuel hoses (and impulse if that's applicable; depends on saw). Intake boot (applies more to older Stihls). Rim/sprocket if need be. Spark plug. Carb cleaner the clutch/drum. You should be cleaning the air filter anyway. Maybe a new air filter if the current one looks tired. Blast the cr*p out of it with an air hose with the side covers and top covers off (with all in/out orifices blocked, natch). Could add new piston ring too I guess. Depends how 'big' the 'big' service is going to end up being!

    Alcho pop

Misread this as: "The ultimate 2 stroke bar oil" Thought: you posh, extravagant b*stard!
  7. Spud is right I think! As usual! It looks like the worm gear is 5038921 which isn't for a 357 by the looks of it. Doh! Stupid me!
  8. No, it's new. That was my first thought. Is odd.
  9. It seems pretty excessive here though. I don't have faith in the dogs being mated with the oil drive. Stupid saw!
  10. There's no washer on the the IPL and there's not really anywhere to put one. The worm drive fits straight onto the crank shaft, and runs against the oil cover plate thing. The clutch drum fits into the worm gear, so no washer there. The only place for one would be between the clutch and the drum...
  11. Hello! The cheap 357 I'm trying to get running is ANNOYING. There's way too much lateral play in the clutch drum. Why would this be? If you look at the shoulder of the crank shaft in the photo, it looks too high! The oiler/worm gear is new and correct. The bearing is fine. The drum isn't new, but I have two and they are both showing the same behaviour. Could it be a worn crank? I do not want it to be a worn crank.
  12. Thanks all! Not sure there is any consensus then!
  13. I know 18" is pushing it, but if you HAD to run an 18" bar on a 357, would 3/8 be too much for it?
  14. Greenstripe. Is this the same as a Husky 254xp? I can't remember.
  15. Aha! Thanks so much!
  16. 357xp. Just stripping down a 357xp with a Zama carb. I know the early ones had Walbro carbs, and the later (like this) had Zama. Either I'm being thick (probably) or there's something weird with the filter holder/gasket. There's an intake from the filter holder that has a corresponding hole in the gasket, but there's nothing on the carb to receive the intake. What am I missing here? Or is there a part wrong?
  17. Thanks for that; didn't know about the company.
  18. 359 and 357 share top covers, any other saw also use the same one? 346 looks the same, but presumably smaller. Nobody seems to make an aftermarket version and I'm struggling to find a genuine one. Anybody have one they fancy sticking in the post in return for cold, hard British currency? Cracked ones considered so long as they aren't actually missing bits!
  19. Could it not be argued that a 30" bar is less likely to injure the user than a 15" bar? More likely to damage the lawn/cat/neighbour/powerlines maybe...
  20. There is a Dolmar 120 (68cc) on ebay that could probably be had for around £100 and would be similar weight/power for less money. Doesn't seem like anybody is buying it. (not my saw, just like the old Dolmars so vaguely watch them)
  21. Open ports on ms341, closed on ms361 I think. Different carbs too I think. Same cc.
  22. My God this p*sses me off! It's the third time it has happened and every time I fly into a complete fury! Not only is it completely f*cking obvious to all but an utter goblin that petrol shouldn't be posted, but IT'S SO DANGEROUS! The ruddy postman might be KILLED for God's sake! Sorry. Rant over.
  23. Ms361 bought as a going concern from some tool on eBay. Muffler bolt sheared and stuck in cylinder, piston scored (pot too probably), fuel tank cracked and leaking, bar FUBAR. Posted it full of fuel. Leaked all over the box; RM refused to deliver to my house. "Was fine when I posted it" says he. Refusing refund. Awesome. Long claim wait ahead.
