    Fake Saws

When I used to work in sound engineering, we'd get the same thing with 'professional studio monitors'. White van would turn up outside the studio while we were smoking outside. "Mate! We're delivering these monitors to South London and we've got an extra pair! You can have them for £500!" They'd give you a price sheet with a direct phone number to their mate in case you wanted to check the price. Can't remember if they were a genuine faked brand, or some entirely invented brand ("Pro-Studio Monitor 2000" or whatever). Obviously the speakers were bobbins, or the boxes empty. We never found out. Funny how these idiots think that people who know about this stuff (professionals) would fall for it...
  2. Does this saw use a throttle cable? I've been playing around with a DCS5000 which I guess must be very similar, and so far it's absolutely aces! I'm not absolutely convinced that using a throttle cable isn't unnecessary over-engineering though... Build is bonkers good.
  3. Ha! 1000 points! I'm such a 'tard! Thanks so much!
  4. Really? I though there were various options. Stihl Super 3/8 is 5.2mm for example isn't it?
  5. I have a hardly used chain stamped Dolmar and 25. I've tried to look it up, but I can't find any listing for '25' made my/for Dolmar. I need to know for filing purposes. It's 3/8 .058 (or at least the bar is).
  6. Powertoolspares.com seems decent for makita.
  7. Awesome, thanks! Problem solved!
  8. I'm being a 'tard. Does anybody have the inside hole measurements for the two sprocket rim sizes? I need one, and I'm pretty sure it's small but I want to check before ordering. The only other ones I have to compare it to are the same size...
  9. Thanks for braving the spiders in the shed to check the saw anyway Spud! I have an almost clean pot and piston for a 100 if you ever want to fix it up... Really smart little saws.
  10. 100 won't be the same brake parts; I have a 400 which is the same build type as 100. More plastic/domestic.
  11. I'll check for cheap frozen burgers in my bed tonight!
  12. Holy sh+t! I kiss you (in advance)!
  13. Well I have that stuff, but obviously it's blue!
  14. But who in God's name is bidding on these things? Are they mental??
  15. Yeah, that's a 109. I'm after a pot and piston exactly the same for a Makita DCS430. DCS430, PS43 Dolmar 109, 110...erm probably some others all use the same pot/piston AFAIK. You can get the parts new, but it'll set you back £150+. If you need any other parts, I might consider ixnaying my 430 since I'm losing hope of scoring a used pot and piston.
  16. Unless you're burying the bar, bar length doesn't make any/much difference, correct? Eg: 50cc saw cutting 12" wood with 14" bar isn't any faster than 12" wood with 18" bar. This is about right, right?
  17. Here it is pretending to be a Husqvarna: And here a Stihl!
  18. I'm not familiar with the Efco 150, are you sure it exists? Greencut seems to be rebadged 'Prokraft', which is one of the 'brands' responsible for the infamous fake Stihls as featured on countless TV/online safety/warning messages regarding cheap Chinese saws. Be careful...
  19. Beautiful, thanks!
  20. Working on my first ex-farmer saw! JeBus M Chripes what a disgraceful, disgusting mess!! Any tips on cleaning out the crankcase without actually dismantling it? I'm resisting the urge to blast with carb cleaner in case the paint reacts... Massively appreciate any tips as always!
  21. Why do you hate lower-case?!
  22. I'll try this, thanks! I'm probably far too thuggish!
  23. Yeah, I bought a few. Not worth the postage otherwise! Blew both testers on the two Makitas I'm fixing. Both have compression over 175...
  24. Progress! For future reference: Snapon online shop! Snap-on Online Tool Catalog Part number should be MT24DA1. Postage a fiver, but still far, far cheaper than a new tester! Will report back!
  25. Blew the valve in my second tester yesterday! I blame the stupidly high readings from the two Dolmars I'm working on. Now I have two dead testers. Hmmm.
