  1. Anybody have any opinions regarding aftermarket cylinders for a 262xp? I have no original, so cleaning isn't an option (the 026 I cleaned recently with much help from here worked brilliantly!). I've got an Episan piston ready to go. Currently there's a 'PowerTec' cylinder installed (I think that's what GHS sells, and probably others). Are there any aftermarket cylinders equivalent to your Episan/Meteor pistons, or are they all a totally unknown quantity? Any opinions gratefully received!
  2. Ah, it's actually 12.5k. PM me if you want the manual/IPL.
  3. I think it's 12k, but I'll check later in the manual. Pm me if I haven't answered by later tonight since I'll have forgotten! I can email you the manual and IPL if it helps...

Greenstripe or Diyspareparts if you're looking for an online option...
  5. Spares can be had from Geenstripe or Diyspareparts.
  6. Awesome, thanks. Didn't want to sell as spares really if for no other reason than it having an almost new 24" bar and chain...
  7. That has 'Christmas present from wife/girlfriend danger' written all over it!
  8. Is a old Echo CS-8000 worth spending around £100 in parts on for bigger bits of firewood? It's in good condition apart from the bits that aren't...if you follow. Need something bigger than my 50cc saw for bigger bits that are coming my way... Is it decent or shite?
  9. Now [it]that[/i] is the sort of information that might have been included with the puller! Thanks so much! *applies more bandage to fingers*
  10. Yeah, I was looking at that having dealt with them plenty of times already. I think I'll probably buy one from that Greek chap that sells the Meteor stuff if I have to. His stuff has always been superb, although hopefully I'll be able to fix the cylinder. I have aftermarket cylinder fear!
  11. "No plastic chain cover"! Well, it is only £465, I mean, you can't expect much can you?
  12. Awesome! Thanks so much again Alec, I owe you one!
  13. Thanks so much for all these excellent answers/tips! How long should I leave the acid on the aluminium streaks before rinsing? It's a little at a time I assume, rather trying to take the entire depth of the transfer off all in one?
  14. I looked for meteor, but I think only pistons are available. Aftermarket cylinders look like a complete lottery!
  15. That's great, thanks! I'll give it a go; worse case scenario (ignoring injury or death!) is that a broken cylinder is still broken! Ray, I'll PM you about plan B!!
  16. Ok, thanks! Progress! Does anybody think that cylinder could be cleaned-up? Or is it dead?
  17. This one is pretty knackered on the exhaust side. The rest is good though. Does it look cleanable? I've never cleaned up a wrecked cylinder, is it super-challenging? Also, I've never managed to track-down a source of acid to clean them with. Those in the know always seem super-reluctant to divulge the source of their aluminium remover...
  18. I need a cyclinder for an 026. Are all the aftermarket ones similarly crap, or are some better than others? Original seems to be around a million quid, which is not an option. Cheers!
  19. Did anybody actually buy one of these? If so, have you found there there is absolutely no easy way to release cable from the drum? The only way seem to be to hold the pawl away from the gear with you fingers WHILE holding the brake off with the other hand. Absolute bobbins. Boo. Hiss.
  20. Anybody know? Should have limiter caps, but this one doesn't. Tried 1 turn out each and starts OK, but doesn't accelerate right. Anybody happen to know? Thankee!
  21. Is there any wood that's worth this (in very small quantities - few tonne) that's worth this? I've been offered it and perhaps I'm being a retard, but it seems bonkers expensive. Maybe it's too much trouble to sell a few tonnes, but I assumed that a sale is a sale...
  22. I'm pretty sure that leccy chainsaws for around the £100 mark are just multi-branded Chinese standards. Bosch and Qualcast seem to share most/all parts for example. If so, Qualcast is cheaper! My £40 B&Q special has lasted 3 or 4 years now, and that's just Chinese tat! Oil pump is the first part to pack up, maybe buy whichever saw has the most readily available spare oil pumps!
  23. Excellent information, thanks!
  24. The last two times I bought it (Derbyshire and Lincolnshire), the dealers both commented/joked about the price and asked exactly why I was buying it. It's absolutely perfect for my needs since I can easily go a month without using fuel (apart from transport), and I don't like ditching petrol (or anything come to that!). I really do think that people like me are a better bet for Aspen though. It may even work out cheaper (I can't be bothered to do the maths) than using/ditching regular fuel. Plus potential damage from old fuel, plus idiot-proofness, plus no hassle/measuring/mixing. Surely focusing on the consumer-friendliness of the stuff and marketing to Jo-Schmoe is the way to go, no? Joe Schmoe, with his Spear and Jackson special probably isn't going to go looking for fuel in the local Stihl/Echo/whatever dealership though... It's back to the B&Q problem then.
  25. I don't usually have to pay for firewood, but might have to shortly. Can one buy cordwood in smaller amounts? Unseasoned I guess. For domestic personal use, not to sell on. If so, is the saving worth while? I have saws/storage etc obviously. I'm in Lincolnshire...
