  1. Does anybody know offhand what size Allen bolt holds the cylinder on a 254xp? Ta!
  2. I absolutely LOVE this type of stupid internet argument. It's the best type. When absolutely nobody involved has any genuine interest in the subject, apart from being right!! (me included) Aldi exclusively sell 'Gardenline' chainsaws. Gardenline chainsaws are made by Einhell. This chainsaw is a GLPC (Gardenline Petrol Chainsaw) 4645. It is (as I said!) exactly the same as the B&Q one (46cc 45cm bar). Also the same as the 'Royal' 4645. Also the same as the Draper one sold at Argos. Here is a link to a Google search: Einhell glpc 4645 - Google Search I claim my 50p. Cash will do.
  3. I don't reckon zomax make einhell saws since einhell make b&q, spear and Jackson, Draper and probably many more. Unless zomax and einhell are actually the same company. Moot really since its all crap and all Chinese. There's a picture somewhere of einhells HQ, and that seemed to be in china rather than Germany...
  4. I think einhell is basically just a posh sounding name for Chinese tat.I don't know if they ever made stuff in Europe.
  5. Far be from me to disagree with Spud, but I think it's an Einhell. It looks exactly like the rebadged Einhell that B&Q sells. 45CC Petrol Chain Saw, 5052931015177 If it is (I reckon it is) then it'll be fine for a while and then the oil pump will pack up.
  6. The ridiculous thing about that is that I was 10 minutes away from this place today and about to drop in for Aspen. Egg on my face. Thanks so much!
  7. Where is good for Husqvarna spare parts? I need a sealing collar for a 254xp (part number 501799401). Is this feasible, or will I need to source used from Evilbay?
  8. 254xp. My new project saw. Super-low compression. Posted to me full of fuel! There are some real geniuses about. Given super-low compression, is there any hope of salvaging the cylinder? The listing (in retrospect) intentionally skated round piston/cylinder problems. If I'd known the piston was done, I wouldn't have bought given the price of replacement cylinders... I haven't stripped the saw down yet; it doesn't seem worth the effort if it's guaranteed that the cylinder needs replacing since I'm not planning on spazzing £100 on a replacement. Spud? (pweeeeeze!)
  9. I mean I can't see Stihl parts on the fr Jones site...
  10. I know who you're talking about and agree. Sent me the wrong part, pretended he'd asked the Stihl guy and it was MY mistake, and now pretends that he never claimed to have checked with the Stihl guy. Very poor. Have had luck with LSEngineers (co.uk). Also the chap from David Whitson has been most helpful, although I've had no luck registering on the site, thus haven't been able to buy anything! I can't see where FR Jones offers postal parts? Do you need to ring them? Is there no online option?
  11. Thanks, that's a helpful and interesting comment. I do use them, yes, although not for anything too exciting. Firewood mostly. The main mission this time is to work on a Husky, but my next project will almost certainly be something bigger (I'm pretty much settled on a 254 for this one), and the 044 looks like a really good bet, so thanks for that.
  12. That's a kind offer, but I'm after something with a little more grunt. Preferably nearer to (or a little over) 50cc.
  13. Thanks! I'm really after something that I can nurse back to life for £150ish or less though.
  14. So far I've made-functional a Dolmar 100 and a Stihl 028, I'd like to try a Husqvarna next. Is there a vague equivalent to the 028? Something around the 45-50cc mark that I can still get parts for and that I can score for £150 or less on Evilbay? Ta!
  15. Thanks for the advice. I just plunge cut it and split it with mauls and wedges as Agg221 suggested. Done in 20 minutes. Thanks all!
  16. This seems workable! Thanks!
  17. Yeah, that's what I would do ideally, but I don't have a jet wash... *checks jet wash prices on Ebay*
  18. Hello! As a favour, I removed a trunk an stump from the local school. The rest of the trunk is split and in the wood store, but I'm left with this stump. It's about 18" to 24" across the trunk if that helps with scale. I've removed as much root as I can with a bow sort. Tools at my disposal are 2 chainsaws, a couple of wedges and a couple of splitting mauls, small hatchet, bow saw. Is there anything I am likely to be able to achieve without wrecking the chains on soil embedded in the stump, or should I just take it to the dump? I know it's a noobish question! Any ideas very gratefully received!
  19. Probably not very helpful, but I've heard numerous stories of people buying Ryobi gear, it breaking almost immediately, and Ryobi being ultra-effective/generous in terms of repair/replacement. My understanding is that Ryobi purchases are usually made primarily with after-sale service in mind. Have you approached them with your problem?
  20. Same deal here (although the local Stihl deals were super pleasant on the phone). Seems Stihl re-use their part numbers, so the part I want (1115 141 8600) is available, but not the part I actually need! How annoying! ho hum.
  21. Really!? That'd be awesome! Such a good forum!
  22. No, it really doesn't. It shows the place I used (with no success), a place that won't sell (unless you collect), out of date Ebay listings and then a whole load of US (in both senses) results... Odd.
  23. Thanks Steve! That is the place I've been using, but not with great success recently. FR Jones doesn't seem to sell parts online. Hmmph.
  24. Can anybody tell me where I can get Stihl parts (028) online? The one I've been using (no name and shame here, correct?) fouled-up, and I can't find any others that will sell me stuff, given Stihl's strange rules regarding who can and can't buy their stuff. All I want is an impulse line for an 028! (part 1115 141 8600) Any ideas?
  25. I'm super-new here, but not to technical forums in general and IMHO is would be absolutely insane to do anything to discourage people such as Spud and Garden Kit from posting freely. Technical forums such as this live or die based entirely on the levels of knowledge/experience/advice on tap. I have been genuinely touched by the (free) advice offered to me here. To give one's time and one's hard-fought knowledge for free is a rare and beautiful thing. IMHO.
