  1. Very fair question Stubby! And a very simple answer.... I didn't stay "there" (where ever that was at the time), attempt to turn "there" into where I was previously, breed uncontrollably and seek to import my massively bloated extended tribal family! I went "there" did what I went "there" to do, respected the cultures and traditions of "there" whilst I was "there" then I packed up and went home
  2. I've said it before Felix, I have the very greatest respect for all cultures, races and religions. I DO however believe that different races have different attributes (technically, that makes me racist I guess - hey ho). I've seen it for myself - I've worked, lived and loved amongst a fair selection of what the world has to offer. I love them all for different reasons - I just wish everyone would stay at 'king home!
  3. when watched, and considered against the map below, one could reasonably extrapolate the theory that perhaps those furthest away from the point of arrival are least "anti" immigration - for the time being at least. Immigration: A map showing EU countries? attitude towards foreign immigration | VoxEurop.eu: European news, cartoons and press reviews It totally baffles (and worries) me that there are actually people that think this is going to end well and should be encouraged / sustained. It's just the very tip of the iceberg. Unless addressed, there will be waves of people of biblical proportions year on year until the European systems of law, order, social and cultural existence collapse into anarchy. Far fetched and unreasonable? It's already started. Recognising the issue and voicing concern is perfectly legitimate, rational and responsible behaviour. Failure to recognise and attempting to suppress discussion by pathetic accusations of Nazi style fascism or xenophobia is grossly irresponsible and will simply exacerbate the situation. Personally, I'd consider those that fit into the bracket above to be treacherous, treasonous liabilities best confined to the Tower or perhaps Guantanamo.
  4. How were your pants at 2:17? Did you look at cut & hold v just cut heads? I can't make my mind up which I'd prefer, pros & cons for both.
  5. Have I been duped?? A simple cut & paste when I thought it had been an epic typing session!! I agree the need for a working understanding (more so for LOLER bods) and it's easy enough to get confused, but until we have the capability to load test the lowering device anchor point and accurately measure the weight, mass, velocity combo of the lumps, I find it all a bit of an academic rather than practical exercise. 😳
  6. Great post! Now, if only we could weigh them pesky lumps before we send 'em down the line 😄
  7. Understood Chris, I think I knew what you meant but I just didn't refer very well to what I thought you meant in my haste!
  8. You don't have to like him, but as always, bang on the money.
  9. It was meant to be funny but it's easy to lose the humour in a forum rather than a conversation. I was alluding to the possibility that people might form or reenforce an opinion based not just upon your nemesis' opinions, but also on yours... Not having a dig, it was genuinely meant to be a funny....
  10. Careful what you wish for.....
  11. Light fingered barstewards! There's an auction on ibidder (Husseys) Crocadon sawmill near me. Mike's packing up and going across the Channel. Been "viewing" days this week, heard somebody had gone back after dark and helped 'emself to a stack of Yew boards wort a pretty penny. If it ain't chained up some slime sucking pond dweller will have it away 👎🏻
  12. He lives in a bungalow!! On a more serious note... There are a good fistful of missing parts to this puzzle.... (1) Is it your house, your tree and / or your insurance company? (2) What evidence have the insurance company produced to validate the requirement to remove? (3) Is it credible? (4) Do you want the tree to stay or go? (5) Depending on the answers to (1) have you contacted the Local Authority to report the threat to the tree with a view to requesting a TPO? And, as Chris said, if the roots are already causing a problem (if), you'd probably have to root prune before installing a barrier any case....
  13. We can certainly agree on the final part! If we all thought the same way it'd be a dull old world
  14. https://www.change.org/p/theresa-may-mp-stronger-punishment-for-perpetrators-of-tool-thefts-from-tradesman-s-vehicles?recruiter=593408234&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=autopublish&utm_term=des-lg-action_alert_sign-no_msg
  15. On the admin side, be prepared for potential questions / objections / obstruction (and requests for wood) from Joe Public or Parish councillors. Consider wether an informative note in parish magazine or a discussion with PC prior to start date might be worthwhile - sometimes information avoids confrontation. Just interested, does the value achieved from doing the work cover the cost / effort?
  16. Emmmmm, no Ed, I wasn't, no confusion at all. Just looking at all the possible options - kinda like if you're late for work this morning you "could" exceed the speed limit or contravene some traffic regs to make up time - even though you know there COULD be implications. I'm sure you wouldn't 😳 I said "could", and indeed one "could" just crack-on. It wasn't a recommendation, but it IS one option. The possible implications of doing so, as you highlight above, are just a part of the decision making process - not necessarily the deciding factor. It is entirely appropriate to consider possible implications and the likelihood of encountering them. But you may also recognise, in the reality of commercial enterprise, risk v reward is a reality. Without re-reading the thread, I don't recall there having been any mention of condition of the trees or possible exceptions either. So there COULD be exceptions to the requirement to submit notice and it COULD be a valid consideration to ignore the requirement. Just looking at it with a broader lens!
  17. I'd never heard the expression!! I don't mind the midwifery aspect, but tonight's episode has been completely mis-sold! I had to leave the room for the ivory poaching scene - completely unnecessary and most unpleasant! (how's this going for a derail TCD??)
  18. You could just crack-on in the hope that it wouldn't be in the public interest to bring a prosecution..... But that would be a fairly ballsy call
  19. I'm not allowed the remote while "Call the Midwife" is on....
  20. I'd perhaps come at your question from a different angle from the advice given so far.... Could you explain the organisation and how you fit into it? If you are a subcontractor working up a chain of hierarchy of organisations, it might be relevant to consider the possible outcome of your reaction and how it could affect future relationships. But.... From what you've written, it "looks" like you're an employee? If that's the case, being asked to return unpaid to remedy what might have been an ambiguous or poorly presented job spec..... Well, that's a big ask and could justifiably be answered with a short expression of displeasure involving fornication and travel.....
  21. Yesterday! A quick run over at No.4 followed by the roller! That's it's then...... It's begun!
