  2. It's just my view Mr Mull, but Cornwall voted fairly overwhelmingly for Brexit - now it seems there's dismay about lost funding. That dismay is of course seized upon and amplified by the butt-hurt bremoan element, ably assisted by the indigenous tendency to moan for the sake of moaning (I have drawn loose comparisons between Kernish and Scottish tendencies previously; the historical, physical, geographic, cultural and mental self imposed feeling of isolation and independence from Westminster (England) runs deep in both cultures!) The previous grant money into Cornwall (from the EU) was actually UK money paid into the EU only to be filtered, laundered, reduced and conditioned before being returned to Cornwall to be squandered and wasted on crack-pot vanity schemes, salaries for QUANGOs and general mismanagement. That last part isn't just my view: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-33360841 😳
  3. Haven't seen it yet...... NI hike sounds like a kick in the slats. How old will we have to be before the pitiful state pension kicks in? After the last couple of days I'm genuinely thinking I might be too old for this!
  4. Maybe sign up to the FC newsletter, it'll keep you informed. Or a call to your area FC field officer - they may come out, walk the patch, offer advice. Should you be worried? Probably best to be "informed" of the possible implications of current & possible future tree health issues and what financial implications they may bring. Worried may be a bit over cautious, informed is always wise though.
  5. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Hope it doesn't cause too much upheaval. I suspect there are some "types" that will take not a blind bit of notice.
  6. For info: Movement Restrictions UK plant health authorities have introduced a prohibition on the movement of sweet chestnut and oak material within four specific zones in Devon and Dorset. A prohibition on two zones in Devon came into force on Friday 24 February 2017. Two more will come into force on Thursday 9 March 2017, one in Devon and one in Dorset. The exact boundaries of all of these zones are shown in notices and maps on the Forestry Commission and Gov.uk websites (please scroll to the end of each notice for the relevant map). The zones will remain in place until further notice and will be kept under review. This prohibition is implemented by Plant Health (Sweet Chestnut Blight) (England) Order 178/2017. It makes it illegal to move sweet chestnut material including plants, logs, branches, foliage and firewood out of, or within, zones covering a 5 kilometre (3.2 mile) radius of the affected sites where sweet chestnut blight has been found. The same restrictions apply to oak within 1 kilometre (0.62 mile) of the same sites. Exceptions to this movement prohibition include oak or sweet chestnut material entering and exiting the zones without stopping. For example, the delivery of plants, logs or firewood which start and end their journeys outside the zones is permitted. https://www.forestry.gov.uk/chestnutblight http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2017/178/contents/made
  7. What is it you're thinking of insuring against? If there's no access for anyone else and no property to damage if a lump falls off whilst carving, I can't see what PL might provide. If you're on your own, no need for EL. Not even sure if PI would run to covering a carved structure? Is it loss of earning if injured? Sounds like a helluva project though! Are you allowed to share pics on completion?
  8. No, you're quite right, it's that damn insomnia! Having the gun out on the table for cleaning ( & a couple of shells still in the jacket pocket from earlier) at 2AM is the best way of getting back off to sleep I find! If it wasn't for the insomnia of course, it would be properly secured in accordance with the conditions of the license.
  9. Would be tricky to get the keys, open the cabinet, load and get to the scum whilst still trying to justify reasonable force / self defence.... But, bloody good luck to them and well done the Judge!!
  10. Is that a bit dramatic / pessimistic? The tree, the TPO and the TO's position are but contributory factors in the overall decision. If the "need" for the development is assessed as exceeding the amenity of the tree..... Or if the lost amenity is +/- replaced, or even exceeded in new planting.... (great in theory, but failure rates could, and perhaps should, be given greater attention at the conditioning stage) If the TPO is long established and not recently reviewed.... If the tree has aged or suffered decline and new planting could be shown to present greater, longer term, amenity.... Just saying..... "Doomed" might be like giving up before it's left the laptop.
  11. There's enough detail in the paper to allow "karma" to catch up with them.

  13. Not trying to "cop out" on the question, but wouldn't the issue/question you're trying to resolve better sit with the architect / project manager? Given the circumstances, they have to decide if the risk is worth the potential reward. Outline could be attained notwithstanding the existence of the tree, later the tree could be removed if the gain from the development was greater than the loss of the tree (which could be mitigated), or the full application could be refused if the opposite is assessed. Frustrating not to be able to get a definitive answer to the exam question (it could even be interpreted differently by different LAs?) but would it be acceptable to present the position that outline might be achieved but then later full might not be achieved and let the architect / client decide how they want to proceed?
  14. £465m EU fund misses jobs targets in Cornwall - BBC News The analysis suggests gross under performance against huge funding injections ( a view I share.) What's the worst that could happen? Take away the funding and still have under performance - wouldn't that be a net gain??
  15. Is it possible that someone could yield in the short term in order to possibly gain, for the greater good of the people, in the longer term, or is it still a generation too soon? Surely, and I know logic doesn't apply, there must come a time when Ireland becomes one nation?
  16. Was hoping either yourself or WRSNI would have some thoughts to share on this.... A totally radical thought (perhaps naive) but maybe that's what it could take to move forward.... What about the DUP saying, you know what, it was really close, SF have gained momentum, perhaps, for the sake of the people, we should propose that SF take the premiership this time, since we had it last time, and we'll take the deputy role. Wouldn't that just be the magnanimous thing to do, demonstrate maturity and forward thinking and perhaps even provide some moral high ground for later given that the alternative is continued in-fighting and political point scoring possibly even leading to the imposition of direct rule from Westminster - which, against the background of devolution within the UK and beyond, surely can't be in the interest of the people of Ireland? I know..... It's just wistful thinking from a pleb, lucky we have highly intelligent and highly salaried politicians to take care of such grand matters of state.....
  17. There's a conspiracy theory brewing here..... There can be no logical reason why the head has been cut out of that picture..... Unless?
  18. Does this work.... http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-03-03/juncker-has-meltdown-while-debating-future-eu-****-what-do-you-want-us-do I think not.... Not sure what the link issue is? Try ZH home page the headline is "Juncker Has Meltdown While Debating Future Of EU: "****! What Do You Want Us To Do?"

  20. Just a view Paul, but prevarication and delay tends to give rise to certain questions of credibility and "will" (for whatever reason) of the AA to investigate a mayor sponsor. AA investigation can't run concurrently to HSE why? How are they mutually exclusive? Different ToRs and potential outcomes. The video highlights some obvious shortcomings clearly apparent to any casual observer. If it were a different (smaller) AAAC, would they still be holding accreditation and waiting AA investigation?
  21. I like Sloth's comments throughout the threat, they mirror my thoughts (which is why I haven't commented, it's already being said!) I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but for Fisherman, perhaps have a browse through some of the online resources here: http://www.ancienttreeforum.co.uk/resources/ancient-tree-guides/ It'll give a fantastic insight into the value of retaining mature trees and may help you to make your decision.
  22. Apol's delay Mark! My Boris comment wasn't connected to previous posts, it was just a standalone input after I'd seen the coverage on TV. Delay was because I wasn't up to speed with the Cornwall funding "crisis." Read about it since. Smoke & mirrors! BS! I can't find much sympathy for whining about reduced central funding. It's my view that the "industry" that has grown out of funding applications actually sucks up more money on admin, staff salaries and jobs for the boys than it actually delivers in assistance, at grass roots, to the communities that the "grant" is supposed to assist. I could waffle up some examples but it would be long winded and tedious so I won't - unless needed to counter a contrary suggestion that we are all, in fact, doomed to a slow and miserable death!! 😂
  23. I agree Daniel, most seriously, taking some of the pomp and ceremony (some might call it privilege) out of government might just go some way towards reinstalling public confidence in politicians and politics.
  24. It's been said! On the bright side, unlikely to have a heart attack!! Perhaps Brum? Central after all. I just had MK on my mind since watching a daytime TV show last week about the place. It also looked at Poundbury, went there for a look several years back - lovely!
