  1. Jobs for the boys, and staying on as an MP. That must be 2 full time, high paid, high powered jobs..... Only way to do that is employ family members....
  2. Bit behind the curve but just catching up on QT via IPlayer. Maybe should be in the Unimogs Rock thread, but what a fantastic performance from JRM!! Favourite word of the show: pusillanimous
  3. I started to investigate when I was asked to work on some trees that were growing atop a listed boundary wall.... Didn't get so far as getting as a definitive answer because the job didn't firm up, but early indications were that, if integral to the structure that is listed or likely to materially effect the structure, likely yes, if not, likely no. Problem being, in that case, doing nothing would likely cause the wall to collapse, but doing something was administratively over burdensome. Trees still there, wall still gradually falling into disrepair....
  4. Nah, you're desperately trying to make the land fit the map.... 🙉🙈🙊
  5. I know what you mean by discredited by association - I have similar feeling about the NFU. Cant cull without landowners consent. It's not a police state after all 👀
  6. What's wrong with having a punt, realising you got it wrong, putting your hands up and doing it right? Isn't that to be applauded? Just a view but, wasn't it actually the case that the majority of reasonably paid SE'd were relatively unaffected by the proposed changes? The trouble with what happened was, IMHO, that it was the pseudo SE'd, high paid exec types (like BBC for example) that were formerly employed, then changed to SE so the employer could benefit from lower NI that muddied the pitch for the rest of us Honest Jon's. It's just that the Westminster bubble couldn't see past the M25 and the media and vote chasers have caused the reversal?? The government mis-read the strength of public and small business opinion - even in the absence of a viable opposition - they have corrected their misjudgement. That's good no??? Act, listen, reassess, adjust.... Maybe the order could be better but now we're asking a lot....
  7. My guess would be something like.... Those that have the most at stake, the most to lose, have shouted loudest, been compensated, claim to be custodians / protectors / guardians of the rural idyl, may turn out to have been the architects of their own misfortune. Now there'd be a thing..... Not as if it'd be a first after all....
  8. And perhaps some painful realities are starting to emerge..... Official cover-up - are hunting hounds the 'cryptic carrier' for bovine TB? - The Ecologist
  9. As distasteful and perhaps unbelievable as it may seem, probably not half as rare as the poorly informed might be surprised to realise. Those "so-called" custodians of the countryside have a good deal more to answer for than many might wish to know: http://www.theecologist.org/blogs_and_comments/Blogs/2988744/official_coverup_are_hunting_hounds_the_cryptic_carrier_for_bovine_tb.html
  10. There's no substitute for a modern, well maintained, tested & certified piece of equipment designed and manufactured to demanding standards, installed and used strictly iaw manufacturers directions. Wouldn't want to give the impression of scrimping on kit! Something like this for example: 😳🤔
  11. Alright.... I know it's wrong..... (like painting your face blue) But I just can't help myself... And...... Some in Scotland appear to be slightly over reacting about the result: Scottish independence: Nicola Sturgeon to seek second referendum - BBC News
  12. What.....? What have you discovered??
  13. Work will always get in the way of filming, or filming in the way of work! I'd say the most important factor is to decide who the target audience is - is it for your own benefit as a record of work, is it for discussion amongst those in the game (like on here) to offer comments etc, is it for your website (potential new customers)? Make that decision and edit accordingly. Each of the above would have a different possible approach - if it's for potential customers to see, keep it short & snappy (not an intentional pun!) to grab interest and highlight capability, equipment and service. Maybe some short and simple text narrative - match the terminology to the target audience. Maybe a montage of several different tasks. Think about length - too short doesn't show all you might want to, too long can loose interest. Think about a soundtrack (again, not what YOU like, but that which might best engage your target audience - thrash metal might give the impression of a bit of an adrenaline fuelled, frantic approach... Chainsaw noise, choose carefully, some is good, too much is annoying. Get lots of footage and be savage - leave 80-90% on the cutting room floor, it's really hard to do, but essential! Think about weather conditions, watching a vid of of bright sunny weather in good scenery might be better than dull grey weather. Just a bunch of thoughts.... Hope you might find something useful in there! You might end up spending more time on editing than you did to do the job....
  14. **** me! What's this? The Mull & Sky pantomime? Of course I read it, before the OP went on to describe his elation at sourcing biohazard, slave labour, 2 1/2 world economy, sea & road miles imported firewood, he/she also described 20 years of buying junk from chancers! Get an oil boiler, move on! I don't care! I got wood, it burns great!
  15. I didn't say that Mull, nor do I believe it. The discussion thus far has provided several examples of suppliers that DO stand by their product and are prepared to stand up and be counted. What I meant, and I suspect you know full well, was that, if the consumer can't find what they are looking for, perhaps they are not looking in the right place!! PS, just thread jumping for ease before bed..... You'll be blaming the roof being open next..... 😂
  16. 20 years of disappointment? Not driven to woodfuel by eco conscience? Want measurable consistency, quality and quantity? Heard of gas / oil?
  17. The days of dismissing Italy as a formality could be well and truly behind us all if they carry on as they have in this round!
  18. I heard Dougie Bennett has set up in Tavy again, anyone know details??
  19. Certainly agree second part of your post! If I could, I probably would, agree first part too, but I can't, so I won't! 😄
  20. Nice one... Great camera angle but PITA going back up to get the camera? Why did you go "small" around 56 secs then big later??
