  1. Best make sure I get my money's worth now then!!
  2. Spent a couple months in Saga Rose in 2006. It was "work" of a fashion, but Caribbean islands and the girls of the dance troupe provided a suitable distraction! I wasn't aware that the ship's quack charged but maybe that was a Saga thing. Just read this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/consumer-affairs/92000-average-cost-care-home-britains-costliest-regions/ Appreciate it's all a bit off track with original point of the thread but thinking ahead is kind of relevant. My contingency plan was to marry a girl 15 years younger than myself so that she will be burdened with me when I'm old, grumpy and dribbling.... She'd say it's already happened so I guess it was a sound choice!
  3. Maybe there's a real opportunity for a business there. Register under a flag of convenience to avoid crushing EU bureaucracy, sit offshore so as to minimise taxation on savings / pensions of clients and provide a first class service with a rotational crew.
  4. Heard on the wireless today, it can cost 4K/month in a nursing home. The caller suggested you could take a cruise for less so why not spend your twilight years on a cruise ship - onboard doctor, fine dining, cabin service, pool, drinks etc! Sounds good to me! And offshore so Tax efficient too!!! What's not to like?
  5. "...The wet field cost us about a day...." Ring any 🔔s?? Sounds like a bit of a rookie over sight... Maybe with a bit more experience under your belt my boy, you may come good! 😄
  6. You should have cut out the middleman.... And listened to the SNP!
  7. Useful read.... Bringing some new blood (4 mnth old) into the pack next week. Our old girl (10 yo GSD) will be burdened with the 3rd new arrival of a boy next week.
  8. I'll apologise for my good friend skyjack. He's cross referencing an entirely different thread where I raised a question regarding the possible implications of quoting in Winter and undertaking the work in Summer. It would make no difference at all with your tree - which would not have been lost on him - but that wasn't the point he trying, in his rather unique style, to make....
  9. A valuable and considered contribution as usual.... You really should be in bed you miserable old barstewrd.
  10. I reckon I've got another 45 mins & 2 small malts first!
  11. I meant I was being flippant not YOU
  12. What's your budget? I'd let a low hours Carlton 900H go but if you want cheap you might be better off with:
  13. All joking aside..... He's the only one (apart from yourself) that's actually seen it. Mick punted at £480. A bit flippantly, I doubled that since it looks like 2 not 1. If it were 1, £480 might be fair & reasonable (from an armchair), doubling up probably isn't very scientific but, in reality, £480 x 1 ½ would't be unreasonable. It's probably possible to get it done cheaper, but you know where that's going...
  14. And the "local guy" that went round already has been nailed to the shed!
  15. I wondered, there's a mis-match between the thread title & the text, photo certainly adds to the probability of 2 rather than 1. I'll see your 480 & raise you 480! Plus VAT of course! (And assuming it was local)
  16. Just seen..... Cheeky! You'd have been able to buy it from your subsidies rather than your earnings if you were though!! 😳
  17. Yup. Rather under reported was the changes to probate fees, or death tax as it has been called, supposedly to cover the costs of HMCTS. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/tax/inheritance/grieving-families-could-be-forced-to-pay-a-new-death-tax/
  18. That looks good! Thought he was going to joint his foot in the second horizontal mortice cut though.....
  19. Yes some training quals have prerequisite qualifying periods prior to attendance. However, training providers are businesses too - they exist to find, train and certify people - it's how they make their money Happy to talk offline if you want to get into detail.
  20. Don't overlook the potential tax advantages that can be derived from the description you give above. (Don't act upon my advice - be sure to either research properly for yourself or seek the guidance of a tax / accountancy professional.) If you are in full time employment AND registered self employed AND your self employment passes both the test of commerciality AND trading, you can offset the expenses of self employment against the taxable income from PAYE.
  21. Brilliant! I think we may have met at the AAAC workshop at Fraddon a few years ago didn't we....? I may have the wrong person in mind, but was it yourself that was draining down on me about how badly your business partnership venture had gone? No offence if I have got the wrong person, possible memory lapse. I'm genuinely interested in your insightful contribution as to how pricing according to the actual amount of work, and amending if necessary to account for variations, might be a ridiculous concept....
