  1. Animal Farm, Orwells illustration of the Trade Union movement?
  2. I'm not following your train of thought! I know change of use can be a backdoor to planning regs, but the stated purpose of the application appears very limiting. And I suspect that as the proposed number of 8-12 would be conditioned to protect natural regeneration, an application to increase stock levels wouldn't get too far. Which was my original question. what population would begin to become detrimental?
  3. But even it is, and I’m not saying whether it is or isn’t, shouldn’t the laws and regulations be applied to the application in hand. Rather than than perceived idea of ulterior motives? If the applicant wants to build a hide to watch birds on the reservoir, which the wood overlooks and raise a few chickens, it doesn’t seem a big deal. He’s not impacting the woodland with a mountain bike/motocross centre, he’s asking for one car parking space (cell web construction) and room to exit forwards onto the road. The LA can condition the number of hens he can keep, so as not to impact on the trees. The system seems unbalanced when a farmer can get away with ploughing up roots and have cattle and sheep compacting the soil with wha at appears to be immunity
  4. Then persuade them to tarmac their drive?
  5. That's a hell of an advert for the industry
  6. Only if you pinched their doughnuts..
  7. Ive no idea about how the client got ownership, whether he owns the whole woodland and only plans to use part of it or what. Currently it it looks like it’s under no management at all, full of rhododendron and no real regeneration at all. It was TPO’d in 1958 and probably not looked at since.
  8. I think optimism might be illegal in Scotland.
  9. We’re all cynical, which is a shame. The applicant can’t win, do it properly by employing an architect to act as a consultant to get approval raises concerns or DIY it and get refused. But you’re probably right.
  10. Strictly speaking, it’s advisable not to start saws near refuelling areas. Ive has one saw combust after refuelling due to a small tear in the fuel line and a loose fitting plug cap. Can’t get much unluckier than that. Melted the bosses coat smothering the flames on the saw.
  11. I wonder how far a bigshot will lob a fire extinguisher, one of the small ones?
  12. Maybe he just wants to get away from the wife. It sounds a lot of structures, but the tool shed is two square metres, the breeding shed about five and the man cave/welfare/brew building is, I think, 25.
  13. It’s not within a garden, but an area within a woodland. Im a bit sketchy on the rearing shed bit (involved via the architect) but that’s how it’s described in the application- storage shed (tool), welfare building, observation shelter & rare breed rearing building (about 6square metres. Think the wood may also be green belt. TO is also raising issues with proposed woodchip path to the observation hide! all buildings are timber construction
  14. I haven’t measured the plot but I’d guess around 7-800 square metres
  15. Spilling fuel on yourself is actually the problem.
  16. It's the last decent thing that you can do for them Eggs. The right decision is to prevent further suffering and it would be selfish to do otherwise, no matter how much we want to keep them around. It don't make it any easier, but it's the right thing to do and I always feel that we owe them that.
  17. Client wanting to keep 8-12 rare breed birds in a TPO'd woodland, which has native bluebells. There's an application in for a observation shelter (for birdwatching) and a small rearing shed. The TO is concerned about the birds stopping natural regeneration of the woodland, along with harming the bluebell population which is in the councils BAP. I don't even know where to begin researching what population level of chickens is harmful in woodland, let alone what they do to bluebells, to counter the objections..
  18. I've smoked in trees for thirty years, totally oblivious to that risk. Better amend the RAMS
  19. Careful, he may have joined the Yakusa
  20. Probably a daft question, but what's the affect of keeping poultry in woodland where bluebells are growing? Does anyone have any links to data regarding poultry population levels and detrimental affects to (TPO'd) woodland?
  21. Is that a euphemism for something else? If it isn't, it should be. I'm just off to smack the rhino... Has a certain ring to it.
  22. Or possibly wind burn combined with frost. I noticed a 60 footer today with browning foliage which has been growing really well previously. (as well as loads of Photinia, Viburnum tinus, Choisya, Rhododendron, Camellia etc etc over the last few weeks)
  23. I can just imagine the interviewing officer, “so, believing that your life was at immediate risk, from this armed burglar, you grabbed a knife from the draining board to defend yourself?” ”and in the ensuing struggle he got stabbed?” Shame he didn’t manage to do both of them.
  24. What about pollarded veteran trees Paul? Bigger or smaller RPAs
