  1. I don't think that it's so much to do with the production of plastics, more to do with the fact that they don't decompose and end up polluting everywhere. Reading snippets here and there, they are being found everywhere, in the oceans, food chains etc etc.
  2. You don’t think that the responses on here might be a little biased then?
  3. You just need a handy teenager around to type it though! And probably a teenage TO to understand the abbreviations and language involved.
  4. If the public perception of the tree work industry was to be where we would all like it be (along with the associated prices), no member of the public would entertain the travelling members of the industry. The general public have very little perception or knowledge about what we or how we do it. They have a tree that they want removed, for example, yet haven't a scooby about how the contractor is going to do it. They don't know what's good work, safe work (or any of the costs associated) and generally have no prior experience of what it may cost. I'm not after appreciation, just a pricing level within the industry commensurate with the costs of training and effort involved. It's pointless banging on about about wages when the jobs that cover those wages aren't generally sufficient to increase those wages significantly. To borrow a tagline from someone else, just my opinion, others may vary.
  5. So there's no point creating professional looking websites and spending time and effort in marketing and PR? Come on Steve, even if the current practitioners don't particularly benefitit it's got to start somewhere. The industry is moving forward at every level dramatically and doesn't deserve the 'paddy and his ladder' view held by a large percentage of the public. Should we give up before we start?
  6. I have! But until we raise the profile of the industry, the public largely will not recognise the bad apples and all that is wrong. I can always hope
  7. Nail and head. The whole industry needs to work towards public recognition as a profession.
  8. Ain’t it difficult to keep track when everyone is related and married to their cousin?
  9. And look into the changes and regulations of Data Protection
  10. That makes so much sense and should remove most peoples objections.
  11. Just a couple of quote visits today, then took the Mrs shopping because of the snow. Plan for this afternoon is to make inroads into this
  12. Saddleworths white. Maybe three or four inches, but drifting deeper in places. Main roads are great but the side roads take a bit of navigating.
  13. TBH I tend to find that successful applications and notifications are those written on a well stuffed brown paper envelope.
  14. Surely the first question is how a LPA can demand that notice is provided using the 1App form, rather than on the back of a beer mat? So back to my previous post, much safer to provide a written submission to the TO, on the back of a beer mat, than just tell him in the kebab shop.
  15. I'm not 100% sure that the word 'written' is in any legislation, but as the legislation reads, to paraphrase, 'it shall be a defence that the authority had been informed and six weeks have elapsed' you'd be surely on the back foot if you hadn't submitted it writing. You're more or less guilty when you stand in the dock, and relying on a tree officers memory of a drunken evening several weeks before...... "So, Mr Smith, you are employed by Little Fiddling Council? And the defendant is claiming that in the early hours of morning of the first of January he notified you of his intention to remove the tree in question?" "I can not recollect receiving a notification, your Honour!" "And why is that?" "I was pissed as a fart, your Honour!"
  16. When has the truth stood in the way of a good story
  17. That's reality, not a parallel universe!
  18. Without perusing other legislation, I''ll guess those not bolded are lawful because I think the notification has to be written.
  19. Ignoring statutory protection or getting the owner to apply?
