  1. Don’t be putting ideas in my head. That just makes me want to test that.
  2. Fixed that for ya Some of the Manchester metropolitan boroughs have quite good mapping, some did have previously but have actually removed them more recently, and some websites have been promising that they’re coming for a few years. Frustrating at times. Some LAs will send a PDF on submission of an email FOC, some like Stockport, charge. Maybe things will improve.
  3. That explains the figure I had in mind for a new , complete, axle - including hubs and brakes. But the complaints were generally about the lower weight rated axle, the one originally supplied with the early machines off the assembly line. Ours is no 12. We bought ours as a used demo from forst and they supplied a complete up-rated axle free of charge and with no quibbling when problems started. I’ll have a chat with the service guys next week and then consider our options.
  4. You’re just short of a parrot try try not to overdo it.
  5. I'd add to get the biggest bestest you can afford/have room for. Air tools are pretty cheap and you'll just find more and more uses when you've a decent compressor. Ours is used for cleaning, drilling, pop riveting, grinding/polishing, sanding, painting and tyres. Edit; forgot impact wrench
  6. Pretty sure that the viewing glass is for cold oil. Have you checked the filter, as our forst chucked a load of oil out this week due to a combination of a severely dirty filter and drawing air in at the pump - due to worn seals around the pulley shaft.
  7. I can see Arbtalk being blamed for raging forest fires this year
  8. Won’t they just! I hope that nobody has construed this thread or any of my posts as being anti- Tree officer. ive met and dealt with a lot and I have a great sympathy for the position most of them are in, their lack of resources and support of both legal and planning departments. Any disagreements that we have are purely professional and usually matters of opinion. We’re sometimes at opposite ends of the spectrum because I’m working to achieve my clients ends (whether I agree with them or not) and the TO is looking to protect and improve. You win some you lose some. God help us when planners, with two days training, take over the role of the in house arboriculturist.
  9. Sorry, I think I confused things. Stockport wasn't the LA I had issue with. I came across their fee structure when submitting a 211 notification for something else. Another topic entirely, but Stockport have only accepted applications via the Planning Portal for a few years now. I wonder at the validity of that at times?
  10. Please do document this, particularly if you attempt the blow lamp/heat suggestion.
  11. I wouldn't hold your breath for that... Where's me tin foil hat
  12. You’ve got to look after your equipment Mark, and not abuse it.
  13. Roz, your odd. Its seldom an issue with TOs, it’s normally problems with planners or the planning department. With Tree Officers we might have differing professional opinions, but that’s what the appeal system is for. Or used to be when there was Arb consultants involved.
  14. Don’t you think so? I’ve found education far more interesting than climbing.
  15. Let me get this right, you've tried new bars and new chains? Together? If you've done that the fault has to be back in the bar mounting, but if that was the case the saw would cut off on the first cut. If a new chain, on the original bar, cuts straight at first but curved with use, then the problem usually lies with the bar (unequal rails). This can wear the shoulders on the chain, which when put on a new bar will still vear off because the chain leans to one side.
  16. Discussion is probably academic anyway. No crown photos, but the larger diameter deadwood scattered in the background may indicate a declining or dysfunctional canopy. If it is poplar, the lack of durability of the wood etc etc etc will probably lead to its early removal anyway. Strimmer rash as the initiating factor?
  17. Okay, the shoots in the second pic look very poplar like. My bad then.
  18. I'm not denying that, my point is that the overly, risk adverse will condemn trees because the residual wall, complete or otherwise, is less than 0.3. The decision making process involves far more than inputting a figure and breaking the saws out.
  19. Are you sure that it's an ash? Matthecks t/R ratio can be (is) overly cautious and should only be used as a starting point in the decision making process. Lots of large diameter veteran and ancient trees with ratios of <1:3
  20. I can’t remember where I got the prices from, but I’m pretty sure I was told over £600 + Vat, when Forst sent us the HD axle (FOC) thanks, I’ll look at the avonride axles.
  21. No. They have a suspension arm with rubber inserts around the pivot point, which act as a damper (kind of) These have deformed and thrown the camber out on the wheel. Im told they’re press-fitted and not replaceable, by a mechanic - he may be wrong. Dont really fancy paying £700-800 every couple of years simply due to our third world local roads
  22. AFAIK the suspension rubbers aren’t replaceable. Has anyway ‘upgraded’ to a different axle set up. We’ve a machine with the HD axle (fitted 2 -3 yrs ago) that is scrubbing tyres for fun
  23. Looking forward to the answers on this - welcome to arbtalk
  24. I miss the old phones that actually had proper buttons
