  1. But reading Arbtalk is CPD, reading political manifestos and speeches is more akin, IMHO, to reading Grimms fairy tales.
  2. The whole tree if his evidence in court is to be believed His report to the Parish Council said 'No work', which apparently means 'you didn't give me a map, to identify the tree and therefore I haven't actually inspected it' Fortunately, the expert witnesses (Mr O'Callahan & Jeremy Barrell IIRC)were of the opinion that the FFB was unlikely to have been present at the time that the inspection did or didn't take place, absolving the inspector of any liability. Edit: May be wrong on the expert witnesses, but heres the judgement. Cavanagh V Whitley - Judgment.pdf
  3. You've definitely got far too much time on your hands, mate:001_tt2:
  4. Ive just started to use Onedrive, which allows me to access evrything (that I put in it) from home or anywhere else I can get an internet connection. As files in the drive are stored 'away' from the physical computer, can anyone comment on their security as a back up/recovery/storage system.
  5. At work, we are seeing an increase in these, emails from clients and others that we've had email correspondence with over the years. Most have odd file names and not quite right senders addresses. I think that because email is such an everyday method of communication that everyone uses, there's a lot of users that don't even consider the risks involved and just get click happy in front of the screen. Really need to be constantly vigilent and attentive to what you are doing. My email got hacked a while back, so I upgraded the security a lot. It isn't too difficult, but I can't convince the others on our network to do theirs - mainly due to their lack of computer savvy-ness:sneaky2: My wife lost a flash drive last week, it only contained a years worth of accounts for work! We'd been talking, or rather I'd been talking, about changing our cloud storage set-up previously but she just wasn't for it. She's had the drive for several years, it had never corrupted and she kept it safely:lol: so that was the best way for her It takes time and effort to keep up with the technology and to get a system that works for you, but most people just keep on using what they are used to and don't want to change - until something goes wrong!
  6. Do you know if this attack spread through JS (javascript?) attachments? I had a couple of emails friday, that went straight into my junk folder from a contact at geosyn, one was regarding an invoice (I haven't bought anything nor sent them one) and the other suggesting I open something for information. I wasn't expecting anything, so binned them both. I downloaded Cryptoprevent, at home, and it's run all weekend without any noticable problems
  7. Used to live near Hebden Bridge, West Yorks - The hippy retreat of the twentieth century. Tree felling was viewed on a par with fox hunting and seal clubbing, but they all burnt logs:confused1: There used to be a resident parrot, in a local pub, which had a regular habit of falling off it's perch, cos is was stoned by the locals 'herbal cigarettes'. Back when you could smoke in pubs. For such a peace loving community they could be pretty belligerent. We got told to leave a site, by the police, because a crowd of them didn't want the work going on. Police weren't particularly concerned that they were trespassing, just that there was thirty of them and three of us - so we had to go:lol:
  8. And you need very high ceilings!
  9. "Because a man can see, he does not look." — Master Po.
  10. Beat me to it, jjll Buy a new set, then compare them to the old ones. You'll soon realise what sharp is! Sharp blades, correctly set produce good, even sized chip. Blunt doesn't, gets stringy and puts more stress onto the machine.
  11. I was just going to call you out on that, cos my memberships twice that:biggrin: I didn't realise how low ordinary membership is, not much more than a magazine subscription. Get joined ya tightwads:001_tt2:
  12. Cheers David, makes sense. Every day's a school day here:thumbup1:
  13. Would have been a interesting candidate for before and after leaf chlorophyll fluorescence testing.
  14. Sorry Mark, seems like everyone's picking on you tonight.
  15. Great when you get back to work from yrs back.
  16. How did you calculate the RPA David? Standard BS5837 or plus some?
  17. When did Bolam grow a moustache?
  18. You did fail however Steve, to utilise the space for the essential woodchip mulch beneath the oak which would have meant driving home lighter:biggrin:
  19. I'm not sure where I got it from, but can there be an issue with underground guying where the stem movement causes a funnel shape within the rootball? Might just be dreaming on that:blushing:
  20. But they'll be more logs in a few years.
  21. Ten years! They're good down your way. I planted 300 whips one year while employed by a local authority at one site. The first grass cut of the season took the lot out:thumbdown: Earlier this week I played I-Spy on one stretch of road where the mowing crew were. 12 out of probably 20 trees had been struck by the mower - these trees were twenty five feet tall, so really difficult to spot in the long grass verge. But, I digress....
  22. I noticed a load of recent highway planting yesterday, where >40% of the ties had broke. Consequently, stems were rubbing against the stakes or wire mesh guards. From what I could see, the ties were a good deal less than 4cm in width!
  23. That's exactly the reaction I got off of my wife when I said I 'needed' another tree book:sneaky2:
  24. As low as possible. The purpose of the support is to stabilise the roots. Stem thickens because of movement, so the less movement is restricted the better.
