  1. Have you got one? ive an expensive gas soldering iron (forget the make) similar to that with a flat end. It might cut baling twine after heating up for ten minutes I use a thin kitchen knife heated over a gas stove at home to cut & seal at the same time. (Don't use the wife's good ones )
  2. I just thought it was harsh to be pointing it out, never said I disagreed with the comment!
  3. The world's becoming a strange place, become a strange place, is a .... I no longer know
  4. Is there any propriety irrigation methods for under-void watering, using rainwater off of the roof? Anyone I've been searching the websites in the expectation that I would find something similar to tree pit watering systems suitable for this, but to no avail. Is there anything available that anyone has specified (and had accepted) or is it the case of adapting something else to suit?
  5. Harsh
  6. I think you need a bigger pot! I can't see any indications of H/C leaf minor and I'm pretty sure the discolouration/necrosis isn't Guidnardia. I think it's quite possible that the tree is drought stressed and possibly also lacking some essential nutrients (despite the miracle grow). Even with daily watering, it's a small soil volume which may become desiccated during hot days due to evaporation from the soil itself and the trees transpiration.
  7. Stop wasting my time, it's valuable
  8. Yeah, but it's even worse when you're half way through the job and the client decides that they no longer want all of the work done (happened this week due to differences of opinion between mother and daughter). Then you're trying to proportion costs that are fair to yourself and the client....
  9. I didn't say I'd be kicking off (might be blood dripping from my lips through biting my tongue though) I'd very quietly and politely ask. I'd get a great deal of satisfaction by (hopefully) embarrassing them and would leave happy if I thought they felt bad about being thoughtless and inconsiderate time-wasters
  10. Seem to be getting that quite a lot of that ATM. I'm happy to do it because I point out in the quote that each item is based on travelling to site to do and if two or more items are done together costs will be reduced. . When you add up half a dozen individual items (including travel) the total gives you a lot of leeway when producing an amended quote after they decide what they want/can afford.
  11. I would have to had asked, I just would have had to, why they thought it was reasonable or acceptable to ask me to visit - wasting my time and money getting there, when they had no intention of having the work done? I don't mind those who are going through the phone book getting a dozen quotes or more, that's the customers prerogative and I accept that money is tight and some are looking for the cheapest price (even if they sometimes get what they pay for), but I'd be really annoyed at that. They may not put much value on their own time, I do on mine.
  12. I was thinking more if a beefeater/yeoman of the guard
  13. I like your approach.
  14. And so they should! good on them.
  15. Is anyone confident that there wouldn't be any escalation? Current world leaders aren't exactly models of diplomacy and stability.
  16. Nice, I found some a few weeks ago which have been sat on my desk, waiting to be identified. Seems to be loads this year.
  17. Couldn't you have thrown your groundsman in for it? Just kidding before anyone gets offended...
  18. I don't understand it, or rather the need for it. If the TO is suggesting an alternative, say what is. If he doesn't like metal tags just explain why and educate the OP (and us!)
  19. Really? Maybe if you're using six inch nails to attach them? Does he also require an application for using a resistograph or picus? Strictly speaking, probably. Would his legal dept be willing to take you to court, as it would be in the public interest to do so? I doubt it. i imagine a magistrate would be delighted to adjudicate such a case.
  20. Never watched it, but from that scene I'm guessing it's on after the watershed
  21. Don't know, but I think with willow the growth rate of the new shoots is so rapid that the trunk/stool wood doesn't expand sufficiently to create a good union. The reverse situation of the branch shedding collar on weak limbs.
  22. Knowing nothing about horses, why are they shod? I can kind of see why they would need to be around here, as riders seen to prefer riding on roads ( the busier the better!) which I presume would wear their hooves too much, but if they just live in a field or are ridden 'off-road' doesn't nature take care of things? And what the hell are 'natural balance' shoes? Sounds like something designed by Schole or Clarks
