  1. Nice photo. Do you ever get the urge to stand the trunk back up (upside down) just for the hell of it to start another layer in the opposite direction?
  2. Once the orientation of the host tree changed, geotropism caused adaptation of the FFB as David said. It would be nice if FFBs changed a few years before stem/root failure. We'd be able to predict how safe trees were, without resistographs and the Picus, just by looking at the orientation
  3. And more, the first oak was providing lots of habitat for the wee beasties. The other two photos are of a tree I saw last year. This year the gall are more prolific and seem to be larger.
  4. why change a habit of a lifetime?
  5. PNC would probably show it as being insured though, so you wouldnt keep getting stopped
  6. Harsh on saws! Matty, you win the 'understatement of the year award' for that. I don't think I've ever seen two people try to pull a jammed saw out together
  7. It must be true, it said so on the t'internet
  8. first one on googling https://www.eden.gov.uk/media/3484/british-standard-bs5837-trees.pdf Someone's going get their wrists slapped by British Standards
  9. Apparently Stihl running though see what what I did there?
  10. Dave will help you through it before the test (did mine with Andy), don't sweat it. A good part of the test is to answer questions in the right way- that information is provided on day 1. You have a practice session identifying problems and then provide management options. If youve worked that long and understood why you're doing what you're doing, you'll do fine.
  11. The i.d is an open book test
  12. Be fair Eggs, she's satisfied her peers that she's considered everyone's feelings and been PC. Isn't that more important than gratitude for the money raised? She wants king sacking in my opinion, but what do I know?
  13. I've felled two in the last twelve months, and can think of a dozen I know the whereabouts of. Not that uncommon, and normally planted in the wrong place. Theres a nice one at Myerscough
  14. Fixed that for you.
  15. You don't need to be left-handed to burn holes in yourself, most of us have managed it at one time or another. See, this is what's wrong with the world today. a minority wants everything changed to suit them
  16. What are the discs like?
  17. And say that Stubby said you'd sort it
  18. Think that saws been running a little hot..
  19. Wishful thinking Edward. As you've pointed out in other posts, LA's either lack the funding to allocate resources to review these or appropriately qualified/experienced staff to do so.
  20. Nikk's looking at a change in career, to start in arb and get some tickets. Nikk, that's an upside. I know you're fit and active from our conversation - you'll mend quicker and get back to pre-op levels of fitness sooner. Stay positive, it's a set back not the end of your plans.
  21. Never mind, all the others are ash anyway.
  22. Must be buying the wrong things, I only get spam so climbing gear
  23. Next door neighbours garden
  24. Some more light minded than others...
