Firstly the tree was there first if your not prepared to live with it then buy another house. Tree roots tend to go round foundations rather than through them unless there is already damage for them to get in. To many people think they can just get rid of trees for no reason. -

I think you were right to not finish the job without taking the necessary precautions and your employer shouldn't expect the Job to be done without them. Hi I've been a climber for 5 years and college for 3, always told in college never to use a top handle on the ground as it's 'dangerous' but IMO it's only as dangerous as the user. I think they say it to stop people being complacent and using it with one hand. For me the top handle is the best ground saw there is, it's lightweight and quick for cutting that bloody branch that doesn't fit in the chipper also good for little prunes just so long as it's used as it should be Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk mobile app

Try holm oak it's an extremely hard wood and just as heavy if not heavier than beech also you can normally get a real nice redish coloration in the heart wood, I have a big cheese in my room sanded up and varnished as an ornament, looks great Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk mobile app -
