Not really there's nothing under it to damage no lowering and easy to reduce the limbs first as he had a cherry picker the only problem I can see is finding somewhere to burn the bits of wood full of metal and even that's not really a problem. He just seemed to take more time in videoing it than getting the job done!
  11. 4 days on a tree? Yer it was big but for 3 of the days he had a cherry picker? And 4 groundies!
  12. I climb in the local council owned woodland fairly regularly and never had any hassle, I just make sure the tree isn't over a footpath or road for deadwood falling onto anyone. There is always someone who is intrigued but nothing more. If it is a private tree it's always best to ask but in my experience most say no

  15. Anyone who need to learn a few lowering techniques just search the thread 'this is amazing' some very experienced guys nicely pruning a tree
  16. I don't think it's set up because when he swings into the tree you see him try and grab to hold on and stop swinging
  17. Maybe they were experimenting faster ways of climbing...
  18. I just can't understand why anyone in the right mind would tie a lowering rope around themselves hopefully they learnt from there mistakes and maybe investing in a friction device will save them a few broken bones or worse. That said I must admit I had a cheeky smile on my face

  22. Cheers for the advice, regarding water soluble not sure I hope not as it's intended for outside, it says external use on the tin if that helps and I'll post a pic of the tin ...
  23. Ok thanks I'm not to clued up with this sort of thing so what grade sand paper would you use and how to thin the varnish with water?
  24. Can imagine she has a hard grip... Good for lifting heavy logs
  25. I've finished a chair I've carved with yachting varnish (2 coats) and it's not as smooth as I want it do you thing I can sand it to get the rough off it? The problem is it's quiet glossy and I didn't want it to dull any advice appreciated
