  1. As a groundie I will third that. I hate being called a stick picker upper. Or brash monkey. Yeah ok so I don't climb, doesn't mean I can't just means I don't want to. To all those climbers who insist on calling us brash monkeys, I would love to see how you get on up a tree without us on the ground refuelling or send food and drink up to you.. Rant over. Sounds like our groundies are more than worth there weight in gold.
  2. That's it the quad bike is out of my hair. Put new spark plug in it and it roared into life. Got yet another 200t in today. Usual running problems. Will fire up on choke just about run on tickover and die when trigger pulled. Swapped the carb for working one and same thing. Will pressure test tomorrow just to make sure but its pointing towards the crank bearings and seals. Best get an order in.
  3. No problems boss.... Nice to be the first one rather after someone else for a change  If the screws are set then either adjust the low out up to half turn, if no improvement after half turn then do the comp test. Edit. Sorry gardenkit cross post The factory setting of a carb is the starting point for a used saw. They will change after time, if it was nice a new then the factory will be fine for a while. But after a lot of use they will need tuning.
  4. Yes a comp test is another must do check. Do a cold check and then when the saw runs up and dies out do another straight away (carefull of the hot plug) Comp can decrease as an engine gets warm as the cylinder metal can expand under heat, opening up the ring to cylinder clearence. Where abouts are you?
  5. Hmmmm. Have you comp tested the saw. Have you tried a known good carb from another saw? What colour is the plug? Have you out the carb back together the right way round? As in are the diaphragms the right way up? Sounds like most of the usuall things have been tried exept for a known good carb.
  6. Suppose so. Guess I will find out soon enough when I order one.
  7. But didn't know if it was a push to test yellow thing or it was a test for current in ht lead? If that makes any sense at all.
  8. Great another shiny tool to add to my list....... Don't understand the push to test button?? So the engine doesn't need to be running for it to work??
  9. More progress on the quad. Decided today that I would remove the cam cover and get a good look at the timing marks. Guess what. The cam was 180 degrees out. Yes up the wrong way. Something I done that I should have seen but didn't. There are two marks on the cam sprocket that when its sitting right are in line with the head top. But what I didn't see was a punch mark at the top that sits up vertical. This indicates that the sprocket is in the right position. So for not starting the spark was given off on the induction stroke causing the piston to stop dead. It was just at the right time that the valves would be almost closed. But the bike is still not running as when I was putting the spark plug back in it broke around the thread and left the bottom part in. Got it out but new spark plug needed as its not a normal shape one that I have but a small long threaded one. Shop tomorrow. Oh and I officially hate this bike. Be glad to get rid of it.
  10. Yep. Look into the adjuster. Knowing what saw it is helps. Depending on what type of adjuster the tread on it may have gone allowing it to adjust up but work back down the threaded bar with use.
  11. Sorry guess stating what I ain't it for would have been easier.... I'm setting up a full workshop. Repairing tools. Mowers etc. I was going to start gardening a while ago but noticed in my area they are two a penny but being able to fix tools there isn't a lot. I need to put some good talents into use. And stop using my mates workshop. With time a plan is coming together and setting up needs to get done. After all if I havnt got the space I can't take on work.
  12. Thought you couldn't use razor wire anymore? Could be wrong. 15,000 v wire does a good job If pigs are going in then just fence for the pigs and put plenty of warning signs up. If anyone crosses it and get attacked by a sour then that's there problem.
  13. I keep having an argument with a lad down the lifeboat over off roading and he is addimant that his vitara will leave a landy standing. I need to get off road ready and show him how to drive.
  14. If the lines are all good with no cracks or holes then clean the carb. The gauze filter may be blocked up. Or the tank vent may be blocked. Loosen the fuel cap and try the bulb again.
  15. Thought this but afraid not. The bike doesn't work that way. It not points. Electronic ignition. Coil just sparks. Sounds confusing but I know it. Ther eh as a sensor but it works on the engine timing. So if the ignition is out then the engine timing would be aswell. But it isn't. Took me long enough to get it right in the first place. Will get back on it tomoz if the snow doesn't beat me back again.
  16. I need to get another reading on the tester. I've even used a car battery to see if the battery wasn't man enough. Still the same. Believe me when I say that try and use the kick start and you will get thrown off the back. It hurts.... A lot... Maybe I will INCREASE the squish band and see if that helps.
  17. Just to show what was wrong with the starter is the pic below. The bushes had worn down beyond the limit causing an arch accross the connections. This ended up burning out the starter. So all who have quads if your starter doesn't work anymore remove it, clean it, and measure the bushes. This was a cheap fix as a second hand starter was £30. For a nice new one its £130, form America. So the list of work done to this quad is. Some wiring and fitting brake lights and indicators as well has hazard lights. And new battery. The head has been completely re conditioned, and vales re seated. The piston has been replaced with an oversized piston and ring set, the liner is not made anymore so this was my only route into this job. The compression before the job when the engine reached temp was 50psi, after the job it is now 160 psi. Now this is leading me to another problem and that's the engine will turn over until it hits comp then it stops, like the battery has not enough power in it to keep it going over, nothing is getting stuck as it can be turned by foot until it hits comp and tries to throw you off the bike. I have checked the valve clearence and all is fine. Is it possible to increase the comp too much in an engine that it will not start..????.
  18. Working on the trx350 from earlier on. Ordered another starter for it from a Honda cbr400. Very close match to this one exept the rear bolt mounts are wider apart on a bit more off set, so changed to outer casings around and moved a few spacers and it fitted perfectly.
  19. That is fantastic. Brilliant way to do a job. Just erect a temp fence and let them get on with it. Eco friendly.
  20. Something along the lines of "Go away" "Who's had my drink" "Get out" Most heard through ringing ears after a good head slap. I don't talk to him much anymore exept for asking if he is still alive that is...
  21. Just got back front the lifeboat. Hd a bit of a brainwave today. The farmer I used to work for as some excellent spaces I cold see about renting out. They used to be used for banger cars. Too big and it will be wasted space that i will be paying for and not using.
  22. 550 or ms261. They are both good saws and will handle everything you need to. The ms260 is the most common saw but it has been replaced by the ms261. Bioth the same really. You will probably find that these saws are used for the cs30 and 31 anyway. Anything bigger and you will start to feel the pain after awhile of use. Plus ou don't want the other half nicking it. Go for the husky and get it ported by spud then tell the other he's not allowed to touch it. Then stand back and watch him sulk (obviously this is a joke and I would strongly disagree with a new user having a ported saw before I get any backlash for saying it)
  23. I was just wondering what the last pic is of???
  24. Well I did start out not he coffee table but it has slowly spread to the floor and now the living room door. I'm just glad my boy is at school or the tax man would be getting scribbles of "me and my dad" with pictures.
  25. I would have to look and say yes there is such a thing as too big a workshop. Unused space would wind me up and I would end up filling it with stuff I would never use and then it would end up cluttered. And don't even start on paperwork James. My front room looks I've a bomb has hit it. Need to get it tidy before the missis comes back from town
