  2. Well close I suppose :lol::lol: Do you need my map of the uk so you can look at where these places are.... :001_tt2::lol: R.E two strokes. IMO four strokes are easier and give less problem symptoms than two strokes. And easier to figure out. But it's just me.
  3. Got given a mower other day. A Flymo with Briggs and Stratton engine on. Filled with fuel and it fired up. Hadn't been run for 2 years aparantly. Sharpened the blade and may sell on. Also might get another identical one aswell. Fixed a Honda for a friend and he has the Flymo in his shed. Also picked up a stihl 191 (I think, didn't look at it too much as I was going home) dies when the throttle pulled and funny tickover. Had a quick look at carb, filthy. Give it a strip down and clean and while doing that check everything over.

  5. Not gong to argue with the tit remark. :lol::lol: Yes there is nothing there really. Just knowing what to look for. But I must admit for me a big Diesel engine is a lot more easier to deal with than a saw or hedgecutter. Sometimes I do struggle with them for the fact they are just simple engines. My brain will try and over complicate the saw. I just have to sit back and remind myself its just a saw :lol: Hands on is always the best approach but do some research before hand as it can save a mistake that could cost you when you try and rebuild the saw.

  7. :lol::lol::lol: Sorry. Urm, not sur show to take that. Replacing a carb kit is one thing. Trying to find a fault that is showing many symptoms of the same problems is something else. An extremely good example of how a saw can stump even the best of us is a few pages back on this thread. An ms200t that I had in. Classic symptoms of leaking crank seals, so changed these and no change, even tho they where leaking. So changed the carb out for two known good ones. No change. Took me a long time of testing and re testing to find the fault. And even tho the comp was very good the rings where worn to the pint where it would run but on full throttle it would die out. The rings where worn and letting in too much air from the crank casing stalling out the saw. There where no usual signs on the exhaust side if the piston or cylinder. Yes there is not a lot behind a saw engine, until you get into fault finding and not just replacing simple parts. Sorry if it sounds sarcastic or pedantic but its really not. Just pointing out the fact that a saw engine is simple, until one comes along that stumps you dead.
  8. What do they mean a modified filter??? Do they mean one that is not reproduced by anyone else. So no aftermarket and only made by Toyota? Or do they mean the garage will have to modify a filter to fit???

  11. Hhhmmmm could this be a way of getting round the top handle saw ban in the future. It says knowhere that its a top handle. Just a lightweight chainsaw.
  12. Compression test it when it conks out. Could also be coil. Gets hot and stops. Does it ONLY happen when it runs out or when it gets hot. So in other words don't let it run out but keep it going and run it hot.
  13. This is of course if the carb you have has the accelerator pump in it. Some do not. These can cause issues. A known good carb will eliminate this issue. A vac and pressure test will also eliminate any problems. The piston may be worn to a point and the retune is compensating for the loss. My first step would be a known good carb and see if the problem persists.
  14. I'm sorry but the 201 was as with all newer saws now, made to meet the emissions regulations as are all cars and anything with an engine now. It's not stihls fault blame the EU. As husky are also having trouble getting there new topper to meet the regulations aswell, and in doing so are sacrificing power to meet the same emission. This is also what the hold up is with them releasing there saw. But I don't know if they have got past it yet.
  15. The problem with the 201 is everyone is comparing it to the 200. It's not an never will be. It's a pruning saw much like the 150t. Use it for what its designed, taking off small branches and its fine. Just keep the 200 going until the husky comes out.
  16. I was going to say compression at first, but it starts up straight away. Then I thinking fuel tank vent blocked. Or air filter blocked. Could also be plug or coil.
  17. I've had this case once in my life with a saw. Could you do me a favour if you can. If you have any soldering wire, about 1.5mm dia turn the piston back down and then place the wire in the plug hole so its inside and pull the piston up, when it makes contact with the piston and the top turn it some more either with a spanner not he flywheel or any other way, try not to use the pull cord as you may damage the recoil. Remove the solder when the piston moves back down and measure the squashed part of the solder with callipers. Let me know the diameter.
  18. Roughly the same prices to be honest. Depends on what you want to replace it with. The original 200t carb or an 020t carb. And of course this is assuming that you actually need a new carb? What are problems that are making you look for a new carb?
  19. Somehow I don't think mr Thomas will be a member very long. What disgraceful attitude and response to what is helpfull advice given by people who know and people who have been there done it and brought the t shirt. I think a report on that post is in order. Utterly disgraceful. My thoughts would be that mr Thomas is somehow connected to northern tools and this is one of there's that he is trying to advertise on the sly.........

  23. Like I said I'm not sure about the storing of gear at home. Is this your business adresse? The use of saws, and starting them within the hours of day light are fine. So is doing timber for your own fire. If you get a visit tea and biscuits are always good tho.
  24. Don't quote this but not to my thinking. Splitting your own forewood is just that. Starting a saw after 10 is fine. It's the storing your work gear I'm not so sure on. Could just be taken home for maintance but I'm not sure on it.
  25. Agree with the missis before opening it up. Check for spark would be the first point of call. Then check fuel.
