  1. Yes Mick. Its a Bonwitco 'With' Speedboat circa 1974. Norwegian built before Wills started making them in Kingsbridge. Bonwitco are famous for their 'dromedile' hull, which gets them 'up' quickly onto the plane, with little power. The Rib is an 'Atlantic 21'
  2. I think you would need a balance weight to stop it going forward, but then it would not go up and down. Maybe better to chain it to something solid?
  3. here is mine, but I had more fun in the rib:biggrin:
  4. I've been putting these off for a while. so as a punishment to myself I have come in today to do them. Not my favourite machines.
  5. How about this Jon? only 3 wheels, but thats nearly 4:laugh1:

  7. The thing is, factory settings only apply to an engine in perfect order with no wear at all. As wear creeps in, such as piston and bore wear, or wear in the carb shafts, the carb will need adjusting to compensate and I have always favoured basic principles of ear, and plug colour
  8. I have just ordered the 4th pallet of 2013. We are just a very small family business yet sell very reasonable amounts of Aspen despite only having stocked it for 18 months. Only one person had ever asked for it prior to then. There was no demand, but we created a demand by using it in all our service work and telling the customer why, as well as explaining the benefits to virtually every customer who comes in to buy machinery. Most purchasers of 2 stroke machinery will very happily buy a 5 litre of 2T. Virtually everyone who tries it will come back for more. Most is sold to domestic customers and self employed gardeners within a 5 mile radius and it has certainly increased our footfall through the door. We sell roughly 50-50 of 4stroke and 2 stroke.
  9. Its torrential rain here now, and has been for the last few hours followong a really wet day. Lots of flooding and muddy water streaming from the fields. Gale force winds too.
  10. May as well buy the pallet Mark. I bet you will shift it in a fortnight. But you will need your sales staff to understand it and be enthusiastic over it. Go for it:thumbup1:
  11. Thats a reasonable idea Steve and it could work, but I wonder if the incentive to sell would be there. Nothing like having your own money tied up in stock to make you want to sell it. If any member has a local dealer who is tempted to sell, but not sure, even after speaking to Eddie, then they are welcome to give me a call and I can tell them how it has worked for me.
  12. Hahaha. Of course I may be BAD at repairing and have a very long queue:laugh1: Seriously though, thats about normal for this time of year, we collect from customers on Wednesday and return the following week. Also collect a ride on several nights of the week and a couple more on Sat afternoon. Try for a week turnround on all. Then of course there are the pesky customers who turn up with kit in their cars.
  13. Not on the bench yet, but heading that way. This little collection, plus a couple more ride-ons, arrived for service yesterday, despite the rain. Only a couple so far today though.
  14. Rich, there have been 3 different tank vents on the 026, and all have different tanks. Are you sure your part numbers are the right ones? If not, let me have the serial number and I will try to identify the correct ones. (providing the tank has not been changed) Failing that, buy all three and see which one fits!
  15. Never heard of needing a ticket to get a saw repaired:confused1: Probably a bit over the top to fit a new carb, a good clean and refurb should suffice. Give it a go, plenty of help on here if you get stuck Trev.
  16. A jammed cutter bar will not stop the engine pulling over, as there is a centrifugal clutch between them, so that problem lies within the engine or clutch. Unless you are quite handy with the spanners yourself and can tinker with these things I would put this down to experience. IMO do not consider spending money on repairs, but certainly give the warranty route a try, you may be lucky. As Andy says, you have not been 'conned' as I doubt anyone convinced you to buy, you just made an unwise purchase. For my part, as a dealer, I will never again sell a Ryobi product (I did sell a few about 6 years ago) nor will I take one in for repair, as the repair bills, (if indeed repairable) will likely exceed the value.
  17. I hear you Rich, let you know tomorrow mate:thumbup1:
  18. Right, my thinking on this. Got to be fuel, either too little or too much. So what is different with saw on its side? The fuel normally has to pumped into the carb by the pump diaphragm, but when on the side it can flow into the carb. It should stop at the closed metering needle, but if that were to not seat properly it could flow past, filling the metering chamber. This could result in flooding. It need only be a small leak, which is also present when running, but the leak is less than the consumption so no problem. So I think I would be checking that out first.
  19. Sadly the more work I do the more mistakes I make. Sure, the percentage stays the same, but the number increases. Thankfully the percentage is low, but it still hurts. Been crazy busy this year, I had my first day off in 6 weeks on Sunday. Seemed a bit weird to be home in daytime! It does look like we have got through most of the pre-booked servicing, although there are 22 machines coming in tomorrow. But the amount of unbooked kit coming in is increasing. There have been 15 assorted 2t machines arrive unanounced so far this week, but I am still finishing last weeks work. Its very important when busy not to let the standards slip.
  20. First up today was the Huskie 40 that I was cocky about a week ago because I had fixed it where others had failed. Pride comes before a fall. It came back:thumbdown: It would apparently work well for 10 mins then would not keep running and was difficult to start. I remembered when doing the carb in the first repair that I had forgotten to check the metering arm height, but decided against going in again. It seemed fine at the time and survived 5 mins in work. WRONG, I should have gone back in. I have now and the arm was a little too high, resulting in a mix too rich when hot. Got it right now, but thats not the point, it just not good enough.
  21. Donation made Jennie. Well done, its a worhwhile cause. We have lost four close family members to Cancer and one more bravely fighting a losing battle at the moment.
  22. Interesting points there Hedgesparrow. I never tell my customers that they will run longer on a tank, but many of them come back and tell me that they do. Many also say that their machines run smoother and just a little faster. Most report easier starting. I only have one customer running a ride on with Aspen, It has a 13.5 hp Briggs, theynormally sound a little rough, but this one is really smooth and sweet.
  23. Best clear "your recently viewed items" on ebay, before the wife starts looking for the kids birthday presents:biggrin:
  24. Not sure what top handle you have, but you have mentioned 1.1 chain and 1.3 chain, which are two different chains, requiring different bars. Best be sure what you need before ordering.
  25. Really pleased to hear that Daniel. And you are quite right. £7 or £8 a day does not kill a job. You should definitely feel a bit more active towards the end of the day. Many of my customers tell me they actually get a little more productivity so easily earn back the extra cost, and a bit more besides.
