  1. Just for the record Daniel, did you have to retune any of your kit?
  2. I was wrong about the last load, it took 4 weeks to shift rather than the 2 weeks I predicted. Another pallet arrived today.
  3. I had one of those too Dean. It wedged very nicely between the seats in the Subaru Pickup. Seem to remember it cost around £800 and the vodaphone contract came with a little map showing where there was coverage. There were a hell of a lot of empty spaces on that map.
  4. She was never quite the same after 'Life on mars' though
  5. I am sure many of you have seen this, but for those who have not... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeEWtNaW6KE]We didn't own an Ipad - YouTube[/ame]
  6. Don't even think about your age Rich. We all get older every day, but are only as old as we feel. I am double you age, plus 1, but still think I am 18. OK , so I am deluded, but happy with it.
  7. As regards the saw, if it works and it lasts for a month or two then you could say its worth the money. You pay your money, you take your chance. But its always risky buying a used saw from an auction. As regards PPE, I have to admit I dont wear any when testing a saw, but I do ensure the wood is firmly held, that I have a clear work area and a good working position.
  8. It would be virtually impossible to shear off a properly made ball joint thread by overtightening, it would strip before it sheared. And its not the easiest position to get loads of leverage. And, as Dean says, he torqued it. Its got to be down to shoddy 'pattern' parts. Beware.
  9. All of his 'cleaned' carbs will need diaphragms, so he is always going to charge more than £10. I thought he was a former arbtalker too, but I think he was 'chainsaw surgeon'. Could still be the same guy of course.
  10. Crikey Dean, its scary what could have happened, glad you kept it under control. Bet you bought a more expensive one this time though:001_smile: Why do they not supply new nuts with ball joints I wonder?
  11. If the valves are too tight the compression will be low, but even if the engine is in perfect order you will not get an accurate compression reading due to the action of the decompresser.
  12. The 1/4inch is not too critical, its just to get the cam follower off the decompressor.
  13. Its very strange to shear a woodruff key. There is always some form of 'give' in a blade mounting, usually an ally boss with shear pegs, or some kind of friction discs. A broken mounting bolt is usually a sign that it has been over tightened. They are however not usually too difficult to remove. You can often tap them round with a centre punch until there is enough to get hold of. There are, of course, always exceptions.
  14. PM sent
  15. Identify your parts using this IPL and post the numbers up, I will run them through my system for you. http://m.mcculloch.com/ddoc/MCCI/MCCI2012_AAaa/MCCI2012_AAaa__9666933-01.pdf
  16. You are thinking right Ben, it sounds like fuel starvation. The carb is the second thing to look at, first is the tank filter and pickup hose. If the hose is intact and the filter clean, move on to the internal gauze fuel filter in the carb. If these simple moves dont cure it you will have to move on to more complicated checks, but take one step at a time. Have fun.
  17. The other thread about putting money aside to pay tax is very relevant, after all, we only pay tax when we are having good times, it is after all, a tax on profit and we know in advance that if we make profit we will be liable for tax. If, has been mentioned, we fall on hard times our tax liability also falls. So as long as we keep the money aside that we know we need to pay the taxman, we wont lose our house, caravan, car, cat or anything else. Its in our own hands.
  18. As a general rule engines rotate clockwise when viewed from above (starter end on a full crank engine) Therefore the brushcutter shaft also rotates clockwise when viewed from the engine end. A bent shaft strimmer has no gearbox at the end, these heads rotate clockwise, but a brushcutter with a straight shaft needs a gearbox on the end of the shaft to get the angle of the blade right to the ground. A single set of gears changes the direction of rotation, hence the anticlockwise rotation and the need to fit a Left Hand threaded retainer to stop it spinning off. Bent shaft strimmers have RH threads but are not used with blades.
  19. Just like Rich says, its most likely to be the coil. The points are just a mechanical switch and cant really go wrong on a random basis. The coil part number is 1113 400 1305 and the last price I have against is £83.81 plus vat. I am not sure if it is still available OE, would have to check.
  20. Hmmm??? Is the flywheel tight on the crank, and is the key intact? I had a Shibaura brushcutter with very similar symptons. The flywheel was moving, sometimes it was in the right place and it started and ran fine, the next time it was not. It was a bit weird.
  21. A two-mix engine is merely a 2 stroke engine, in other words it works on the 2 cycle principle as opposed to 4 cycle. Two-mix is the name given by Stihl to their new generation, low emission engines which have fancy air induction systems which put a buffer of clean air in between fuel charges to purge the system efficiently. Other manufacturers have variations with different names.
  22. As Bill says, it will usualy burn off if its due to too much oil, but to be honest, if you have run it for 10 minutes and fitted another exhaust as well, then I suspect there are further issues such a broken ring. Your best bet is to do all the tests and charge her acordingly. Her best bet is to return to the machine to B&Q and demand a replacement having paid you for your work to date. In fact, an even better bet for her is to get her money back and buy a decent quaility machine elsewhere.
  23. Rich, yes, there are 2 screws holding it down at the back, but the front should have a lip which sits under the front cowling thereby holding the front edge down. Is yours broken off by any chance, or is the front cowl not secure? And I agree, I dont like them either.
  24. Even if the sticker is gone, the black ID plate should still be there Rich.
  25. I guess its a 225 H60, if so part no 5037753-01 @ £6.84 each plus vat. End of week.
