  1. One for Eddie. A while ago it was rumoured that the government had been approached (by AAoil?) with a request to remove the fuel tax on Aspen. Did this actually happen? If so was there any response from the government? That 58p reduction would be a great help to us all.
  2. Maybe, but not for long. Why not try it? It is after all only a cheap saw:sneaky2:
  3. Yes, its the Fuel Duty at 58p per litre that should be first to go.
  4. if it does what you want then who cares where it was made?
  5. Just like you say, you will tach it at 10k. At this point it should ideally just be on the edge of 4 stroking if you do it by ear. But, High speed equates to low torque, so as the load comes on and the revs drop the power will increase. In your case this is 8500 but you will not know this, or easily be able to test it. Just trust that it happens. The 10k is a bit low for many saws though, what saw is it?
  6. She will always come home to the starboard shore.
  7. Its the tax break we need Geoff. AAoil still make their money. I still make my money. The user saves some money. The government lose.
  8. Interesting. Did you try getting them retuned?
  9. I have just done a bit of googling on the subject of price. Husqvarna sell genuine Aspen in europe. their 5litre cans seem to be retailing at 22 euros in France Stihls motomix appears to at 22 euros in germany And our Aspen is 21 euros here. Found that interesting. Of course the prices may be a little out of date on the first two.
  10. Sorry if you took health references as 'scaremongering', I am certainly not that extreme. The references are intended to provide information to any interested member. It is then their choice if they consider the use of Aspen or any other alkylate fuel. You are correct that Anglo American are retailers, but wrong on a technicality. They do not buy Alkylate and badge it as Aspen. They buy Aspen fuel from Aspen and sell it in its original branding. It is the genuine thing. I appreciate that you see no need for Aspen in your life at the moment and that is your choice, which I respect. I also like our little 'debates' as they do wonders to bring more information out from various members, both positive and negative (depending on your point of view). This thread has over 8000 views, and I know for a fact that it has generated several new users.
  11. Ahh, but I never mentioned killing anyone, that was someone else. And if you notice I said "your health may suffer", not "will suffer". There are all sorts of ways your health could suffer using petrol. Sure, you could breath enough benzene to cause leukaemia, but that will likely take a long time. More likely that you will just be a bit more tired at the end of the day using petrol than you would be on Aspen. Your chest might just be a little tighter after a day breathing petrol fumes, or you might have a bit of a headache. You could possibly suffer all of these and not even be aware of it. But change to Aspen and there is a very reasonable chance that you will suddenly feel that be more 'alive' at the end of the day, but you won't know why. Until you go back to petrol. If you don't believe me, try it, but beware, you may be converted!
  12. I was initially worried that I would not sell Aspen because of the price. But within 18 months I have become the second largest 'over the counter' seller in the UK. Sure enough, the first 'sell' is the hard one, but after that they just keep coming back for more and seldom mention the price again.
  13. Fair enough, it is, after all, your choice. And with your good fuel management its only your health that may suffer, not your saws.
  14. Click the Aspen Advert on the forum, there is a dealer map there, David
  15. Ok, so you find petrol consistent. This being the case then you are obviously managing your fuel well. If you are buying regularly, and using it at a steady pace then it will indeed be consistent. Many users however do not buy regularly, and do not use it quickly. It is well known that old petrol is not as good as fresh petrol, therefore different to when it was bought, or in another word 'inconsistent' I doubt that any user worth his salt "can't afford it", more likely don't want to afford it. And as regards "can't find a supplier', look at the signature line on the bottom of my post. Sorry, this sounds a bit arsy, not meant to be, just to the point.
  16. I recall a post on the forum a while ago from someone who reckons running Aspen has saved him a huge amount of money in repair and replacement. Sad thing ( for me) is that I can't find this post to quote here, maybe someone else will. But to me, the longer life of equipment is not he biggest advantage. In fact its a disadvantage because I sell saws etc!!!. The biggest advantage comes from the consistency of performance and the much more pleasant working environment. As we have seen on the preceding posts on this thread, all the criticism of the product comes from those who don't, or won't use it. Most of those who do use it would not willingly go back to pump petrol, despite the price difference. The purpose of my contribution to this subject is not to make people use Aspen, but to make as many people as possible aware of the the product and its possible benefits to them. It is then their choice if they wish to try it.
  17. You are a lucky fella Matthew, what a job!!
  18. A bold statement from Eddie, and one that may be difficult to prove. But in fairness it may not be that far from the truth. An engine run on fresh petrol, at the right mixture, and serviced correctly should give good service and a long life. There will be some carbon build up around the combustion chamber and in the exhaust over time due to some of the impurities in the fuel. As the engine expands and contracts some of this carbon may dislodge and cause wear in the bore. Some of the carbon may tend to stick the rings a little, shortening the piston life. Old fuel, oils of insufficient quantity or quality and poor servicing may reduce the expected engine life. Aspen fuel is very pure and is mixed with high grade synthetic oil, always at the right ratio and the use of this fuel does, without question, reduce carbon build up within the engine, and will extend engine life. I have now been using Aspen in my service work for 18 months and have seen many Aspen run machines come in for the second service. These engines are exceptionally clean. This is noticed particularly on the exhaust and spark plug. Fuel filters too, remain as clean as when they were put in 12 months previously with none of the discolouration seen with petrol. Carb diaphragms are unstretched. I have pulled the pot off of one engine,(brush cutter) not because of engine failure, but because it had been run over by a tractor. This was a year old and had been run from new on Aspen. The internal engine components were absolutely as clean as new. No carbon or discolouration at all. In 4 stroke engines the oil after 12 months is as clean as the day it was put in. This is sufficient proof to me, and I hope backs up the controversial statement made in the previous post.

Sometimes I use the desk top and the ipad together, so I can check on posts others have made while I've been composing my reply. Then I can edit or delete before submitting. Less likely to look stupid! Tonight however, only the ipad.

If you have significant scoring you may not generate the impulses needed to operate the fuel pump, so you need to do a comression test. If you have sufficient impulse but dont pull fuel, then your impulse line may be fractured, or the fuel pump daphragm could be hard or split . If these are ok and its not pulling fuel then it could be blocked gauze or split pickup hose ( everything Spud says) You need to do some tests and diagnosis. Edit, sorry to the last two posters, I am a slow typer!
  22. Thats a lovely little boat Mick. I dont think you can manage without it.
  23. Im going to be blunt too, I agree that there is a lot of poor kit coming from China, but its not all rubbish. Its horses for courses, but some of the the chinese stuff like Mitox which has a comprehensive dealer network and full spares backup can be a good bet for an occasional user with a small budget who wants the security of a two year warranty. I am not suggesting it for Pro use, but it is actually very good kit. The Sanli, however.......??
  24. I call incomers 'income'
  25. I didn't till I looked it up on the IPL! Its easy to look clever if you can google things! ( but most of my posts do come from my knowledge)
