  1. Why not? all good mother inlaws do it these days, didn't you know. these people up in the northwest........ I dont know. what are you like?
  2. You certainly know how to charge.
  3. The reason most sawmils don't take small amounts of timber off people is it not worth their time to set up contracts for small quantities, coupled with that is the certification needed to source whether the timber has been certified or not, also throw in other concerns as nails in the timber, straightness, butt rot, knotty timber, and so on..... Its a bit like turning up at tesco's with the produce from your garden... if you see what I mean.
  4. Too big and heavy to fit on a tractor, thats a lorry crane. possibly 25 year old.
  5. Not for me either, I'll be sticking with my soaking wet Sitka, nothing like seeing the froth comeing out of the end of the log as it sizzles on the grate!!!
  6. Yes first victory in 10 years, isn't it back in 1969 that the toon won their last piece of silverwear?
  7. Mid Wales.

  12. Crane and trailer - £3000. Winch - £ 1000. Rough guide.
  13. Can't help notice that a lot of people here have dogs as guard dogs, is crime a real problem for some of you, I'm very lucky in that respect living where i do, I don't even take the keys out of the vehicles at night, or even lock the house doors hardly ever, only if we go on holiday.
  14. Don't p-ss about talking about it, get on with it or it will be down on your building, there is very little holding it up, get a winch with serious pulling power "10 tonne+", put the rope up 2/3 the tree and pull it over in one go allowing plenty of distance between tractor-winch and the tip of the tree, don't bother with fergie's or 4x4 trucks they will be just be spinning and getting nowhere, brute force is the order of the day here, get it done as quick as you can ...... also you can put a pulley up a tree about 20foot up to make the pull level, that make it easier on the winch, as the winch then is not pulling into the ground so much, if you see what i mean. good luck.
  15. I doubt a dealer will give a stranger an account, unless they know each other.
  16. What about sticking a pair of wheel chains on her, ok you will have no more flotation but you you will have more than double the traction than on rubber, especially on steep ground, you can take the hills on in confidence.
  17. Try G+T Evans, Newtown, Powys, 01686 622100.
  18. Thats a Dexta, the major's little brother, got a six cylinder in there, made me laugh too.
  19. From what I can gather, John Deere-Timberjack, have discontinued making these sometime back,
  20. Fixing any head to any machine is mainly about the hydraulic oil flow,(litres per minute), in this case i'd go for one of the smaller Keto's, the Keto are known to require little oil flow incomparrison with other heads, also something light is easier to manouvre and won't make the base unit unstable. But be warned fitting heads is an expensive business.
  21. Very posh, done a good job on the guarding, just watch out for the steps- stroke fuel tanks inbetween the wheels, they tend to be a bit low if you drive the front wheels over stumps placing the steps to lodge on the stumps, sometimes buckeling them or even knocking them off.
  22. Taupotreeman, I'm coming over, its getting too closterophobic here, can't even buy a power tool without showing your papers, what if i want to buy a grinder? will i be refused? The government are taking an unhealthy involvement in how we are running our lives. The fun has almost gone out of doing anything now.....
  23. Rain been blowed across the hillsides here in Mid-Wales. but thats normal.
  24. With bigger cuts there is no pain for the first half hour usually, I think thats because the cut is under the nerve line, but after half an hour it starts throbbing like hell and goes really stiff to move. I remember a few years back, I was chockering on my own on a saturday morning on a hillside, when one of the trees rolled down a bit as i was putting the chain around it, unbeknown to me there was some sharp pointy branches on the underside of the tree, so whaen it started rolling it caught the back of my left thigh and gouged a 4inch long x 3inch deep cut, didn't feel a thing untill i noticed some blood on the boots, and some wind blowing on the bare skin through the torn trousers. Had a look "christ" lets get from here I told myself. Well the drive home took me ages, stuck behind caravans and lorrys going about 35mph, with the pain now reaching horrible levels, the worst part was pressing the clutch down to change gear, severe pain doing that, looking down to see blood soaked seat didn't do nothing for my nausia either. Got to the hospital and sewn be back up under local anasthetic, had to take a month off because the cut was horizontal not vertical, which meant walking and straightening my leg was very sore. Hope you make a full and speady recovery....You'll be ok.
  25. £40 per m3, thats cheap, can you make a go of it at that price? is that price inline with your competitors.
