  3. Yeh i reckon that would be about average over there , couldnt believe the size of them !!
  4. I'm going to throw my hat in for some guelder rose , stunning late winter berries hanging like jewels gorgeous to look at and important for the birds Ps if you like birch get yourself over to Sweden , absolute monsters ..
  5. Certainly end of some villages !! this flooding is getting serious !!
  6. Hmm the mods are out now ?
  7. Do you know how much they are brand new ?? I've got brand new size9's still in box if anyone interested (sorry mods)
  8. Dont know the maths involved but generally between 1-2 metres above the ground is the greatest bending moment / tension of a tree and is the most likely to split out therefor . (does look as if you have had two stabs at the hinge as mentioned , not a criticism at all just an observation )
  9. Just seen it in the news , you will be okay if you head to a mountain in the Pyrenees . See you all there ?
  10. The one below your upper/side D
  11. Sounds like you have had a bit too much LARGER jonesie !!
  12. Just stick a little fig8 in your lower D , smooths out any jumpiness in your hitch under the circumstances you say . Thats what i got recommended from on here and it works a treat
  13. Have to be careful cutting at that height also its the trees ' hotspot' ie its highest stress point .
  14. In my opinion that wood hasnt rotted enough for failing under ' normal' circumstances . The storms in the east coast round about that time were extremely damaging , i did an oak very similar to the pictures which ripped apart much worse than the one shown because of included unions , not decay specifically .
  15. Any particular reason behind your suggestion ?
  16. Cool photo's dude !! ( I'm gettin the aussie climbers speak ! )
  17. Hey what about an invite for northern arbtalkers !! Yes Braemar i think must be one of the most stunning places in the uk . Mar Lodge is just a hidden gem , i'll never forget stumbling upon it when i came up here . Those mountains are so so tempting at the moment
  18. Have a real cracking Christmas mate , great news
  19. Thats correct about the warm water . Thats what they put down to resurface skating rinks between sessions , it freezes much faster you can skate on it after 10 mins or so , not possible with cold water . The horses water troughs just get the ice broken on them and refilled with buckets from the house if outside taps freeze . Can be a pita but not alot you can do about it .
  20. I just said there was threads on here where professional boys were struggling for work ?? Thats a fact .. Dont need to explain to me buddy what being truely on their arse is ..Been there aswell , glad to here you bounced back like me ..
  21. Yes , agreed inspirational thread from silky but you seem to have overlooked other recent threads ? Thing is the auction for example wont be discussed gentlemanly over a pint sort of thing , it'll brew and simmer away until something ugly will happen . Only an observation , not condoning anything at all .
