    The Dogs!

Yeh think there is quite a few on here feed their dogs on the ' barf ' diet . Been threads on it before ..
  2. Surely you should be able to cross load it , it's only taking someone's body weight .this is unavoidable descending pines etc ?

    The Dogs!

Couple of breeds there I believe should be worked only . If time is an issue your looking at a low maintenance breed IMO . Go for it :-)
  4. Borrowed a colleagues flip line this week with swivel and positioner and don't like it . Swivel very annoying for reasons already been mentioned and the positioner self feeding you into the stem all the time . This isn't a problem on a straight pole though .
  5. Drivall were the ones I used , just add them into your price anyway . :-)
  6. Agree with the above . Make your own version if possible . The long slack in the tail gets snagged all the time and daisy chaining it behind your harness never really worked for me . Nice snag free open crowned tree fine but this is rare ..
  7. Agree ..it's just a baby ...
  8. Grippy slings now and steel crabs , much quicker and easier ..

    Austria

I have been in Vienna for one and a half years . Trees are much bigger and more horrible to climb than in the uk so any Youngster is going to get a real crash course in climbing when they come out here . This will stand them in good stead when they inevitably go back home within a year . It is generally speaking a fairly safe City , very multi-cultural and most Groups Keep themselves to themselves without any Problems . The centre is very baroque, stylish and beautiful , but the outer districts dirty and are not so nice ( this is where you will be staying on arb wages ) 450 euros or thereabouts will get you a decent but small Apartment on the edge of the City and 47 euro buys you a monthly Transport Card which you can get you anywhere in the City very quickly . Food is truely shocking and of very poor Quality unless you have culinary skills and can browse the very good markets for fresh produce then ist not so much of a Problem . Beer at pubs in the Centrum is between 3.50-5 euro and as previous Posters have said is of excellent Quality . You can buy the same beer at supermarkets for 50 Cents and is amazing . You will probably start on something like 1800 per month and this would increase as you start to prove yourself . You recieve a double monthly wage twice in Vienna , June and November , but will be paid pro rata in the first year . Its not really the dream most People imagine and unless you can meet up with a local Girl who knows the language and System and you can master German the chances of someone Lasting Long term out here is very very Slim . The woman are stunning out here ( dont bring the frau )
  11. Death has brightened up an otherwise dull afternoon ...
  12. I was always led to believe you needed distance at all times between the fig8 and hitch , no interference at all ...
  13. Looks as if the hitch could run through the back of the fig8 jamming it up . Would like to hear more views on this curious set up though ?
  14. Good little tip that especially for the new flimsier one although technique plays a part in keeping it in the cam
  15. I think as a previous poster has said it still looks a bit cluttered to me i would personally have thinned it out a bit more back to the main limbs , the thirds rule is almost impossible to stick to imo , nice job ..
  16. It really is a complete and utter joke concerning responsible dog ownership in the uk . Had to laugh when it said the Alaskan malamute was not on the banned breeds list as if ' Pitbull Types ' are the only breeds capable of killing a baby . Questions need to be asked what you are doing with certain breeds of dog ( In this case a notoriously dominant working sled animal ) and unless you can prove you can fulfill its needs then there is no way you can own such a dog . It is not fair on the dog let alone the humans at the receiving end of its living , boring hellish existence in an apartment block with the village idiot . But as usual the dog will be blamed ... shame on us ..
  17. I would recommend them also ..
  18. Yep prefer the winter olympics .. Ice hockey fave but enjoy most of the others ..
  19. Yeh of course , long pull with alot of friction at the top especially . Hitch climber and pantin ..
  20. My god he avoids cutting his head off with the contortionist back cut trick , the top doesnt get stuck between the bucket and boom , avoids the mewp going over and only gets a bit of shock after a whole tree falls on his head !!! More importantly the dog is ok ..
  21. Hi Taupo , you want to speak to an arbtalker ' Rupe ' . Dont know if he still posts on here or not but certainly new first hand about Alaska . He mentioned to me once on a post about the film ' Into the wild ' , that he had met friends of one of my heroes , the amazing lady Susan Butcher ...
  22. Looks like a heavy object has been lying on the boot for sometime causing it to be deformed like that . Fail or no fail they would be going back imo .
  23. Vt , distel etc will need tweeking every so often but the prussic shouldnt really once it has bound into the mainline . Could try a blakes hitch , same dia as your climbing line and once it binds into your mainline will never need tended , excellent knot .
  24. Think things have to be put into a little perspective here . Its one thing saying you are still climbing at 50 etc ( random figure btw ) but climbing what ? A 35m black poplar or someones backdoor birch , cherry etc ? Climbing everyday or you can just actually still climb a random tree ?
  25. Cool , it just seemed a quite concerning question for someone already sectioning down a pole . Its good practise to have your main line in for you descending out the tree in an emergency and for someone getting to you quickly for aerial rescue . Two common ways is to choker your main line round the stem with a bowline knot and have a figure8 backed up with a hitch or choker the stem first with a multisaver or the like and just put your main line through the rings ..
