  1. Got through a back log of tree work, then it went quiet; good to have a change of pace felt like we hadn't slowed down for a long Time, now it's time to finish processing next winters firewood while it's hot and dry.
  2. Reached high 20's here, felt like a sauna, only 1 fire tonight (hot water & cooking), first time this year!

    Ticks

Yes Darren, we have those in all our first aid kits! Mainly used on the dogs though!
  4. 2 fires John! Frost got all the runner beans and potatoes/sweet corn and it's nearly summer solstice, can anyone remember a frost this late?
  5. Even though hot outside , still need my fire in old stone house!
  6. Hot and sunny, sun cream on doing log processing, warm breeze, beautiful, oh and no midges yet!
  7. Yes, it's great to be able to get some expert help on here when you live somewhere as isolated/remote as Us!, . Tim & I Looking forwards to attending arb show next week!
  8. Thank you for your help Alec, I understand what you have explained. I find it hard answering questions that seem to me biased towards companies that employ many staff, when it's often just me and husband it gets difficult to talk about 'implementing' our policy. If it makes no difference that we employ male/female staff, Then am I miss-understanding the point of equality?
  9. I think it's so obvious maybe I'm trying to make it hard? Yes we are upgrading the firewood processor, and log deck and putting some hard standing on the work area, I have no idea what the purpose of the question is.
  10. Not surprised no answer yet, not sure if there is one!
  11. Bit of brain scrambling going on again! What is the correct type of response to yet another EU Directive type question ' in regards to this investment(forestry) how will you implement your equality & diversity policy? we work almost 50/50 male female, which I know is Not normal in forestry etc, can't employ certain groups because you have to be fit to be safe etc... What on earth is the answer they are expecting to hear???? I'd love to know how others get around this stupid rubbish because it seems pointless. ( I do have a company Equalit & diversity 'policy' but how can it be applied when we are buying a new processor and laying some hard standing the grant is supposed to be funding?)
  12. It's not really a bigger machine we need, but more automated, less physical etc, older bodies needing less wear and tear and all that!
  13. Yep. Cooker all day and big stove from late afternoon for hot water and heat, all year round here!
  14. 6 cubes this week, quiet! enjoyed checking out some bigger/faster machines at JasP Wilson last Saturday, time to re-think our log cutting system etc, trailer being serviced, repairs on buildings etc. Lots to do if not delivering logs!
  15. I have to have employers liability even when using sub contractor, when on FC land, so not sure legally how your situation works? Will look at thread in a few days and see if anyone can clarify!
  16. Sounds weird! Yes security theft is a problem in UK, but not sure voice recognition would work her either!
  17. Managed to Register with RPA no problem once I got through to a 'voice', security took minutes and was sooo easy compared to the web site /2nd security check with mobile or ipad needed to gain access. You'd think the words 'Rural' would be a clue, I suspect we are not the only remote rural foresters or farmers trying to apply for a grant with no mobile signal at home/office!
  18. Have they been flayed by male deer antlers? bark looks damaged
  19. Been on phone since last post and getting no where, automated system refused to recognise my SBI number 3 times.....
  20. Anyone else had the same excrutiatingly frustrating experience trying to register with RPA:confused1: They assume (some faceless beaurocrats in Europe?) that everyone has access to a mobile phone and an ipad. We are without mobile signal and I do not use an ipad to do office work on. Without these you cannot get through security as you need to be able to use the mobile code within 2 minutes (tried 3 times), or use an app on an ipad to obtain security codes each time you log in. This is supposed to ba grants that are accessable to people who work in deprived rural areas etc, many of which are without such modern luxurys, we do not even have electricity and they want an electric/gas bill as proof of identity. I am going to attempt to phone my application, which they recommended after a fruitless discussion on email this morning, but not holding out a lot of hope it will be quick!
  21. We've taken all our kit in the back of l200' just a soft roll down cover, on the ferry, to France, never had any problems at customs checks. They were more interested in what cheeses etc I'd bought back when they looked under the cover for illegal immigrants hiding!
  22. I find there are summer customers, ones who like to stock up, especially if they live really out by and have delivery problems in bad weather. Log sales never stop, just get fewer from May-July.
