Problems aside, the 18" might be too much for that saw anyway. As you say its a great 'light work' saw on a 14", i love mine. Any heavier work and i'd be reaching for a more powerfull saw.

Morning, Would anyone like to quote a price for 26t of softwood (or hardwood/mix), cordwood for firewood processing delivered to North of Ullapool. To give you a better idea, it would be a 180mile round trip from Inverness and a non articulated lorry (with crane) would be best. PM me if you like. Thanks.

Heat and fold together in a smithing furnace. You can do the same with wire rope.

If your not happy doing it, then you made the right choice. On the other hand, doing it is really the only way to learn. As others have said, each one will be different. Just take a good, long hard look at it. Even remove a few limbs and see how its going to react. The roots run so shallow up here that I've only had a few that want to stand back up. The ones that did were most impressive though, had a 15ft butt section spring itself back upright off some deer fencing at the begining of the year. Thats something i'll never forget.

Don't run the saws much on my own, its allways nice to have an extra pair of eyes watching and someone elses (different) input and ideas. Plus, with 2 people its only half the work dragging stuff about.

Postage to the highlands will allways be expensive. I've not found many company's that will offer free P&P up to me, so generally I try to order lots of stuff in one go to offset the cost of postage a little. And to be honest, when you think i would have to spend £25 on petrol to get any kind of major shopping destination, the postage isn't that bad really.

Depends on the chain too, I have a little 'LP 91VXL' chain that dulls allmost instantly when put through a dirty tree.

I have the Type-c's. Ordered a size too big incase I need to wear some combats under them in the cold but they still only just fit without. Fairly tough, not much stretch in them though. I would try a pair on for size first, over all good value for the price. -
Morning, It doesn't read that bad to be honest. What that guy has done is compare your price delivered against a price he paid for cordwood. I would write a nice article for the next news letter, keep it pleasent though! outlining how much his 'cheap' wood from the MOD actually cost. He even says it was 10 trailer loads over 25 miles, i'm guessing thats a one way trip so that must be be 500miles of driving just to get it back to his home. plus he had to cut and split himself. Write back saying how you are trying to make an honest living, how costs have increased, how you've never had any other complaints and most of all,,,,, how you've learnt to never promise an exact size of log to customers

There is nothing 'daft' about helping other people, but at the same time make sure you look after number 1. Don't push yourself, and don't feel bad if you can't cut the grass one week. The world would be a better place if there were more people who cared in it.

What are the poles that stick up made of and do they fold flat/detach??? You know, if the trolley had an extra box section bar in the middle on each side and a stick up pole (so, 3 each side instead of 2 ) I could load that up, drag it to where I needed it and use it as a saw horse aswell. The wood that sat in the bottom of the 'v' would'nt get cut of course, but I'd save so much time and energy.

Would over-tightening the plug in its seat cause such a problem?? I imagine it could.

Sounds like these things are too small to be cleggs?? OP states about a third of the size of a house fly.

Basic maintainance is a must do. Apart from having a saw that runs great, if you are looking inside every few days/week you'll be more likely to spot something going wrong in its early stages, and before it ruins your day.

Has anyone ever done a controlled test though?? as in, ever measured degradation of a fuel mix at 50:1. Or is the 'don't use an old fuel mix' something left over from days gone by when it maybe was an issue. I'm on my last couple of tank fulls of a 3 month old mix, I can't find any difference with it compared to when it was a fresh mix. Before every fill up I shake the can for a few moments just incase of any seperation. I'd like to see a propper and independent lab test of petrol/oil mix degradation vs time. I would be the perfect customer for Aspen, being an irregular user, but the price is just crazy.
