  1. Now thats a good idea, I guess you just chuck the logs in rather than stacking them neatly inside?? Could save me a lot of space as I only stack my split logs about 1m high at most. Going higher makes sense.
  2. The Milwaukee heavy duty range are pretty good, up to 500ftlbs of tourqe from a cordless. Pricey though, never had a problem with the one I use.
  3. Yup, Large splitting axe (not the maul) is perfect. Goes through most things with not much effort. I allways try to split wood green though, saves alot of effort over splitting seasoned stuff.
  4. I have two collies, a dog and a young bitch. Normally sleep on thier sofa in the living room and run through to the bedroom when they hear me getting up. Though just now, the dog sleeps behind a closed door in the bedroom with me, for obivious reasons. Don't need a litter of puppies to look after.
  5. Would you be kind enough to post (business) contact details for Ron Clowes please, I'd like do 30/31 this year but can't seem to find any contact information via google. Thanks.
  6. I bet some people spend that much time smoking instead of working each day though,, Was allways taught to look after stuff when I was young, because if it broke, there wasn't another one comming.
  7. Yup, they look great. Like number 2 alot, will have to pick a couple of these up. Long sleeved versions in time for next Autumn would be great too!!
  8. Excellent stuff, need some ideas for old cable drums though.
  9. I'm with you. I clean everything after I've been out, chainsaws, Silkys and Axes. Only takes 20 or so minutes to get everything clean, sharp and oiled up ready for the next time. Not only do they look nice after a good clean/service, I know that if I keep doing it my stuff will still be going strong in years to come. And I must confess to treating myself to a nice small Husky last week, that I didn't really need.
  10. A few to do like that myself (the small one !) seems this wind will be with us for a while yet though, take care.
  11. Why do dogs do that??? I've one that does the exact same, usually at the end of a walk right before I take her inside!! Nice forest.
  12. Yes you are right. I have an old and bashed about Canon 400d and HDR software + Photoshop. These were all taken some time ago. Thanks for the kind comments everybody.
  13. A few of my shots from mid to North Scotland, hope you enjoy.
  14. Just caught this, but thanks for thinking of me. I see 'big fell' is on the case but its allways worth PM'ing me here if you find yourself stuck for labour in Wester-ross. I work two jobs so usually quite busy but I have some spare time in the Summer. Regards.
  15. Coal, Rowan, Birch and Sitka Spruce. And most likely my dinner aswell.
  16. +1 for the udder cream. Its amazing stuff.
  17. I had good service from them too, prices are good and the guy I spoke to at Abbey 'pro' was very helpful. I thought £20 for delivery to the highlands was a bit steep, but I didnt factor in how large the manufacture packing was for the stuff I ordered. Recived two huge boxes by courrier so at £10 each box it was reasonable. Would use them again for sure.
  18. This method is mentioned in the 'Gransfors' book. Not tryed it myself but the logic sounds good, and you would think the swedes know a thing or two about fire wood and keeping warm.
  19. Website is not working, but I have a few photos you are welcome to use. What kind of size would be best ? most of my files are pretty large and will need resizing before I mail them. Regards.
  20. Anything under 25% goes on my fire, Pulled a fair amount of felled spruce off the hills from the FC this summer. Had been there a few years I would guess and was reading around 19% in the summer. Burns like a dream.
  21. Im North of Ullapool, out on the West coast. You are right, not enough trees. Im not a 'pro' though, just keep myself in firewood and clear a few trees from stands that were never thined out after planting.
  22. Its not really a training issue, more a common sense issue. It also sounds like you may never have checked to see if you have been running with enough, or indeed any, chain oil. Im sure you'll get it running again, but allways check your saw over before you use it. Everytime. Never assume it'll be the same way you left it after the last time you used it, thats how accidents and breakages happen. Good luck with sorting it out.
  23. Excellent, exactly what I wanted to hear. My mind is made up, I'll pick up a 365 with 24" and 18" bars/chains. Thanks for all the comments.
  24. Thats great, thanks for the information. Sounds like a good saw for me, perfect for what I want it to do.
