  1. The bit about removable redirects - this is somthing i havent experimented with, but must be a game changer, especially being able to retrieve at a distance. What are the best methods?
  2. someone trod on some sharp metal went through their boot on a building site?
  3. I think Rough Hewn method best - bar off and indoors, countless threads 'container broken into last night'
  4. or phone jammer and night sights, then dangle some bait
  5. my felling cut would not have looked that neat - if I could even hold that huge lump of a saw while tied in - respect
  6. I haven't yet done a TPO reduction - I don't feel I'm skilled enough, but now I know its only £600 if I mess up, may be tempted to rasher a bit off one. Photo from the link above, different angle, would be interested in seeing outlines in red of what people would have aimed for, seems to me the 2m on one of the sides isnt enough - trouble is people want symmetrical rounded crowns after. Looks like they took approx 4.25m off in places 'Investigations by council officers revealed that the permitted works to the branches had been exceeded by 125 per cent' Maybe the first bloke cut it away from the roof and thought I'm never gonna get this looking nice keeping to spec, I'm off. So it wasn't council coming back routinely to check it was someone local who didnt approve who phoned in - I've had this myself on a non TPO tree - I was asked to trim back hard(variegated maple) Neighbour ' Are you shaping that?' Me ' Yes' Neighbour ' You've f*cked it now - come back here and have a look'
  7. Impressive stuff for a newly published site, considering how many there are in that area. I noticed its moved up from page 3 to 2 using the wider search 'Somerset'
  8. Words and pictures looking good, just need to hack into googles servers now and make sure its always on first page
  9. the persuader
  10. I havent done mine yet (front) on my mk6 transit - but have seen the youtube bodgers like htb said above - whacking the bearings onto the hubs with a sledge. I have seen you can make up a puller to get the old bearing off the hub using another old bearing with hole positions. For the innner race it seems to be a die grinder or similar. I have been considering investing in a plasma cutter with guaging function - possibly work for cutting bearings off. So?
  11. so can a pre mot if you wish be a whole mot but 'off the record' ? if so it seems the self repairers have a kind of loophole costing an extra £60 max
  12. so what happened with the wheel bearings - how did you get the old off and new on?
  13. needle scaler - was a geat help preparing my rusting tipper chassis, gets into corners and knocks the rust off, then applied Vactan rust converter and finished it with black epoxy mastic Jotamastic87
  14. It seems to me, both communism and capitalism are terrible. How can a locum doctor get away with charging the NHS £1000 per shift. Sure the doctor will be a highly educated motivated life saver - but they are effectively saying 'pay our ransom or we will let the patients die' http://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/locum-doctors-nhs-120-an-hour-liaison-figures-staff-shortage-hospitals-a7713331.html 'NHS Improvement said last month that one hospital regularly paid a locum doctor £360 an hour, or £3,600 for a ten-hour shift.' If that doctor wasn't a pig or nothing In addition to the greedy locum doctors there are numerous press reports of pharmaceutical companies charging extortionate money to supply drugs to the NHS. Seems to me nationalizing drug manufacture and research would be sensible. Why not have pharmacologists and chemical engineers directly payed by public money. Cut out the middle man
  15. From what I've seen of it - exactly the opposite is observed. An avenue of pollards the trunks will be nowhere near as big diameter as similar age open grown specimens. The compression relief from pollarding is less of a factor than loss of photosynthetic area - the biomolecules that comprise the sapwood growth rings are mostly from the leaves.
  16. you may have already done an extensive book search - here are two that deal with woody plant propagation. Practical Woody Plant Propagation for Nursery Growers - Bruce McDonald apparently 7 quid from abe was 37 on amazon edit sorry wrong abe not that cheap inc postage https://www.abebooks.co.uk/9780881928402/Practical-Woody-Plant-Propagation-Nursery-0881928402/plp Reference Manual of Woody Plant Propagation: From Seed to Tissue Culture Michael Dirr. https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/SearchResults?ds=20&kn=Reference+Manual+of+Woody+Plant+Propagation%3A+From+Seed+to+Tissue+Culture&sts=t unfortunately cant seem to search the index , there was another relatively modern book by a US female author, can't find it today.
  17. is this discussion about gaffing out and sliding down the stem?
  18. three 12" specimens here for £15, can't grumble at £5 a go, that's if they are not duff. Wonder if they were seed grown or from cuttings. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Araucara-Arucana-Monkey-Puzzle-Tree-12-3-plants/222837303530?hash=item33e22368ea:g:mfIAAOSwknJXxXNX looking at some of the ones on ebay its gonna take forever to get something worth looking at from cuttings - even these 4 year old ones are small.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Monkey-Puzzle-Trees-Araucaria-araucana-2L-Pot-4-Years-Old-Perfect-Gift/182182337814?hash=item2a6ae9dd16:g:CtUAAOSwYVlaH9M6 Hope your customers arent in their 80s
  19. another one thought to be 800 to 1000 years old 'Queen Elizabeth Oak'. By pam fray, CC BY-SA 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=13672536
  20. Why dont people keep to posting these sort of threads in the lounge? An interesting topic, but not directly related to tree work.
  21. Agree - even if she does work for the vampire squid her ideas make perfect sense to me. Good on her. As for Sam Harris all he seems to say is 'follow me I know the way' - like a pseudoscience Jesus. I'm an Athiest too, but I wouldn't give Sam Harris the skin off a bucket of cold piss.
  22. Yes, guns killing everyone - Someone said after the last school masacre about arming the teachers so they can return fire, if a teacher heard shots down the hall they may have time to take aim at the doorway to their classroom. also the Times has 'Ready meals and cereals linked with rise in cancer'. A million ways to die.
  23. our taxes will help feed them so they can come over here and take our land too. I did vote leave but was reminded the other day weve had peace for 70 years. Wonder how long before the next war? Hopefully not yet, worst thing i can imagine getting a conscription letter land on the doormat
  24. So if someone came up with a fungus killing medication for sick trees it wouldn't be worth it, better not to interfere with natural selection. Bring on the genetically modified triffid trees
