  1. and they will have to buy the copper etc for new infrastructure, so I'm holding my Rio Tinto - will pretend the stock market has closed for the next ten years
  2. if people have a big infested oak in their garden, no access, couldn't they pay someone to go up with a knapsack and zap them? maybe one of these machines for inaccessible areas
  3. excellent - maybe a shame to use chemicals, but they do look nasty bugs, better to intervene maybe on a smaller scale - climbers with PA1/PA6 knapsack application
  4. wish I'd foreseen this trend and bought shares in the lithium miners before the smart money hiked the price. No good trying to invest through the rear view mirror
  5. one of those motorised ones for going up, smaller than an orange, 75GBP inc tax
  6. it doesnt look great where the rope passes near the gate - not generally sharp edges, but still a risk if you've forgotten your wrench, maybe you still have a figure 8 descender in your bag, better than nothing
  7. 'optimize conflict resolution' wtf belongs in the same pile of shite as other management speak e.g 'We are rationalizing our suppliers'
  8. I went to quote and the lady said the first people did exactly the same - I had followed her through the front door and looked around the garden at some overgrown bay to top at 6 inch dia and an ash to top, a swimming pool to avoid but not too bad. I said to her 'I can't think why they wouldn't have wanted the work'. It was only that evening it dawned on me their house had extensions on both sides and no side gate. I didnt try to renegotiate, man of my word and all that. But that drag one ton brash through the house taught me a lesson hopefully. More generally I will explain in detail and try not to be vague - e.g 'Sorry I haven't got the staff for a big roadside tree' or 'No thanks that hedge needs a tractor flail' One mowing customer even asked me if I'd be interested in fitting a new kitchen - I said I'd like to, but didn't want to risk cutting something wrong and losing money on the job. Can't you just take the time to explain in detail why you think a job is going to be difficult and would require you to submit a price way above what you normally would?
  9. benefit claimants and thieves, the women are the worst part of it, filling the camps and doss houses up with the next lot.
  10. i got a used DMM chest harness off ebay, was using a Stihl shoulder strap for combi as neck tether. With either neck or chest would be good to have something less fiddly to attach or remove. 2 magnets or something
  11. your a lucky man - Chateauneuf du Pape is one of the best heavy red wines I've tried. Seem to remember italian Barolo is similar. Nuits Saint Georges and Cotes de Nuits Villages are also worth a swig, if you can bear to part with the readies. I can't these days. I can remember the flavours and relive the experience almost as good as in the present without having to graft for it
  12. Facial recognition software lets Chinese police spot face in 50,000, Times and Mail had this story, very futuristic. Like Robocop the plod wearing jazzed up specs and putting up cameras linked to face databases. Interesting technology - if they had these cameras installed at all petrol stations wanted criminals would have to put on a disguise to fill up
  13. Still being researched - a few links. Possibly less hazardous than landmine clearance https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/door-opens-for-welders-cancer-compensation-20140815-104h2w.html https://www.atlenv.com/stainless-steel-welders-exposed-to-hexavalent-chromium-a-cancer-causing-substance/
  14. Wouldnt recommend it, maybe last longer with an airfed mask. Stainless fumes prebook your chemo
  15. and for when the readings indicate impending failure -shares in a big tracked grinder
  16. non genuine 50GBP https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hedgetrimmer-Blade-Set-Fits-STIHL-HL45-HL75-HL95-HL-KM-COMBI-KOMBI/332250874160?hash=item4d5bb20130:g:D0wAAOSwVFlUGq1y genuine 90GBP https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Stihl-HLKM-Combi-Kombi-Long-Reach-Hedge-Trimmer-Set-Blade-HL95HL100KM130/152975080586?hash=item239e067c8a:g:6nEAAOxyuR5TZ70a delivery to France may mean not much cheaper than local
  17. I went for the Dewalt 899 2x 5ah batts £300 approx. 1/2" drive for me, not doing heavy plant. LED is good enough to locate stuff in poor light
  18. the reported £100,000 from MI6 seems low, may have been enough to buy a house at the time, but nowhere safe to hide
  19. true, but for some brands a long hard google will unearth the pdf if you can't bear to part with small change for an ebay cd bg86 service manual https://www.stihlbnet.ca/TIS-en/documents/general/RA_296_01_01_02.pdf
  20. just found this, reading through the comments plenty suggesting its fake and one person says 'tap on bonnet to start reversing gives it away as fake lol' looking at the footage it does seem likely, my guess fake https://youtu.be/snRs3iXMdTc
  21. who's got the stats world wide deaths due to cranial damage from falling deadwood since 1650? Must be more than none
  22. Hi Ken, sorry , found loads of solo rigging vids today, but not the one I was referring to. I have tried to sketch it, hope you can see it. Basically lowering on a loop of line if multiple branches and no groundie, so you untie the tail of the rope (not necessarily climb line!) at the top and pull the rope back through the carabiner(s) once the cut piece is on the deck and retrieve your rope to repeat
  23. must be a bit of ivy or something looks a bit like a climber (ivy is a climber) - I thought it was a stunt too
  24. Thanks - bloke on utube had a nifty way, tied the tail off near pulley a clipped the pieces into a bight so he could haul back
