  1. it's £10 a ton max !!
  2. As far as the job is worth really. I was in Dumfries last week and went down to St Hellens this week. When subbing i travel upto 60 miles in with my day rate further i charge for fuel. I try and build jobs in certain areas together. I had a rook of small domestic jobs that i managed to smash out in Carlisle in 2 days. Just need to sort out logistics of chip sites/wood buyers if it's not economical to haul home. There are quite a few firms that work over 100 miles from base weekly. I suppose it's all in the numbers really but i know i couldn't earn a crust only working 15-20 miles from my base as theres way too many treeworkers and not enough work.
  3. Do it like TimbercutterD skid them out whole then convert and load with a set of forks. It's all well and good hiring forwarders and buying timber trailers but this isn't a commercial operation the chaps got some standing timber to do what he want's with. What will he do with his timber trailer when this jobs done??
  4. I'm busy lol I'm based near Poulton but as said got a full week next week unfortunatly. If you get owt else give me bell bud.
  5. I found it on ebay!! The key is to go and look at it with pound notes in your pocket lol Amazing how many people take a cash offer and remove the item from ebay One thing i've noticed is that when things come up forsale up your end of the world, they don't get the same interest because half the dealers in the uk won't travel to pick it up.
  6. Whilst on the subjuct lol i've just bought a nash 454 with power steering and power loader with bucket and forks for £750 today. Needs a ram seal, new pipe and fitting then steam cleaning i'll post pics when it arrives in my own thread. Just goes to show there are still bargains out there if you look hard enough.
  7. You'd really have to want a MF135 to buy one! As already said their too much for what they are. Better off with a nash or a davi brown. 2k will get a clean one with loader and cab if thats what you want. BMC tractors are cheap and powerfull in comparison too. LEYLAND 154 MINI TRACTOR | eBay LEYLAND /NUFFIELD 344 | eBay Leyland 262 Synchro tractor complete with quicke 2300E loader and bucket | eBay These are good firewood tractors have a look.
  8. Dont doubt it's good fun but splitters are made to increase production. If you had to do 20m3 of knarly crap in a week by hand i can guarantee you wouldn't want to do it again the week after
  9. I have a L200 and a 105 ifor the pair cost 3k so they can be had at reasonable money. It just depends on whether you want tidy or servicable i suppose.
  10. Wessex do one for £500 and its not bad at all. From what i see at sales and auctions small log splitters make nearly new money anyway so your best buying a new one. I'm going for a decent sized horizontal splitter next that runs off pto. Buts up some of them big buggers i've been getting
  11. Many thanks guy's!! Both enjoyable day's work!! The chestnut was a decent sized technical dismantle and with guy's that are good at what their doing!! The laurel wasn't the nicest of job's but the company and the veiws of the lakes more than made up for it!! Windamere has always been a magical place for me since in was a boy!! Ha bloody soft arse i am lol
  12. I used to use bags but have gone onto a 1m3 tipping skip. I found customers are getting wiser as to the whole dumpy bag vs cube and price per volume. So i decided to do away with the bags and use a set measure. Also the amount we spent on bags compared to how many we got back.
  13. Aye get on the bay and see what you can find but steer clear of cheap telehandlers. I bought a sambron for 3k it run for about 3hrs!! Lesson learnt!!! Now i'll have to pay another 3k or so for a runner and then i'll have spares
  14. I have one for the same applications as you but it's going on ebay this week with a carving bar and chain thrown in. Can't fault it but it's only 12month old. I think if you've had 4yrs work out of it i'd replace it. The small 170's 180's and 210's feel a bit home ownerish to me. Maybe look towards replacing it with a ms241 there still very light but feel like a different and better beast altogether.
  15. I think you will find my 785xl does 23mph thanks and the ford 7840 has a "40kph" box which it does at 2100rpm but at 2500rpm it does 27-28mph. All tractor manufacturers made models with different final drives from the factory. Some of the 80's Same's and deutz's used to use aircooled engines and where propper bullet proof and most are 4wd. I've seen a few tidy examples for around the 3-5k mark.
  16. Unfortunatly i'm not Welsh I'm based near Garstang Lancashire.
  17. Plenty more to go at Cheers Andy
  18. I work hard and sell plenty of logs so i can pay my gas bill
  19. Why not get in touch with a firewood merchant? I buy wood straight off site.
  20. According to those waste of tax payers money road signs that tell you your speed with a happy or smiley face flat out is 28mph:lol:
  21. If you look hard enough you'll still find a new ms460 but as pointed out above a 660 with a 25" bar is managable but has the benefits of running bigger bars. But a 660 is a big saw not a medium to large saw. To be fair if you aim for a ms200/201, ms361/2 or a ms391 and a ms660 you'll have 99% of situations covered.
  22. They are quality logs pal!! I'm going the other way i think, stick with just my whole sale prices and have a delivery charge for single cube loads. I will lose alot of domestic customers no doubt but would like to pickup more wholesale. If i get enough i will look into a wagon, i've just finished a 100 mile round trip in the tractor it's a bit much to do several times a week :boring:
