  1. Has to be my 254xp just makes me smile every time I use it. Wouldn't mind a 550xp either
  2. If you guys are still up for it ill try to organise a rec climb down here in Kent when the weather dries up as at the mo you would almost need a boat to get across some of the fields around our way I have a few good looking sites just need to have a word with land owners may even be able to do a 2 day, camp over,BBQ and climb if there's enought interest
  3. I have the very similar 353 and that runs a 15" bar .325pitch 1.5mm gauge and for what your doing I'd think semi chisel would be better as it a little more forgiving than full chisel should you hit a nail or the like when sawing pallets. If your replacing bar and chain I'd also check/replace the drive sprocket as if the original bar and chian were worn chances are that will be too. Hope this helps Graham
  4. Not strictly today's job but a pic from last week working with garth mc garth
  5. Ok so going by the last set of pics I stand corrected on the brake band being ok however i'd check that plastic bit too as looking at it the band has only been worn through in one spot so could have been caused by the plastic holding the side cover at the wrong angle allowing the clutch bell to contact and wear through the band
  6. Sorry to contradict what others have posted but having had one of these saws I'd say your chain brake looks fine however in your pic on page 2 there is a plastic insert below the chain tensioner on the side cover that looks to have been scoured buy the chain I'd check that it is fitted propperly as if memory serves me corectly it only held in place with a small screw and can quite easily vibrate lose allowing the chain to contact the plastic and give the symptoms you are describing hope this helps
  7. Just had a conformation email from children's trust and it seems I mis typed my user name so they have me as tractor61 not tractor62 as I should be. I don't know if I need to contact them to change this or if it will be ok as is
  8. Just bought mine fingers crossed
  9. Found these the other day And had no idea what they where but they look quite like the pics on the previous page. These were in the dead wood of a ash that I had to fell last week
  10. Forgot to add I have experiance as a tractor driver and timber trailer/processor/360 digger operator (again no tickets) and am fairly handy with a set of spanners or a welder.
  11. Hi guys I'm looking to fill in a few gaps I have in my self employed weeks at the mo. I'm 29,have a clean full driving licence, cs30/31, own saws/hedgetrimmer/strimmer and ppe(inc climbing gear but no tickets yet). At the moment I am mostly working for a local livestock farm but I have some experiance in chestnut coppicing and am interested in getting into arb work. I'm based on the outskirts of Ashford and have a van so can travel. Rates are negotiable and I can get a reference from my boss at the farm if required Please ring on 07875 523699 Or email [email protected] Many thanks Graham
  12. I have a 353 on 15" bar and i used to run side by side with a mate coppicing sweet chestnut and he had the 346xp although he was marginally quicker felling/snedding I was faster cross cutting so by the end of a day there was not much in it between them. Mine now spends most of its time doing just what you describe felling and logging hardwoods and I'm more than happy with it. Might also be worth looking at the makita and echo saws as they seem to be getting some decent reviews
  13. I have used a twin barrel foot pump with a football adapter before, seems to work well enough for me and its easy enough to keep in the van for blowing out air filters as and when needed
  14. Looks very good but like most shiney things it will probably cost far more than I could justify spending. Would defo like to try one though
  15. Having had a 435 I'd recommend them, great little saw plenty of go and nice and light I only got rid of mine as I traded it in against my current saw (husqvarna 353) as I needed something bigger to cope with more day in day out use
  16. Just thought I should let you guys know I guy with a description very similar to the pics on the last page came to the farm that I work on in Egerton, Kent last friday offering "cheap chainsaws and power tools" sadly I wasn't there but the guy was in an Irish registered navy blue Mercedes Vito or similar type van and allegedly had some stock left over from doing shows. Hope this can be of help to someone Cheers Graham
  17. I know its short notice but could be climbing this Saturday at the farm in Kent if anyone's interested ?
  18. I had a husqvarna 435 a while ago and it was a great little saw, for what you say you want to do with it id say it would be spot on the only reason I changed mine was I needed a bigger saw (husqvarna 353) as I was doing more work with it and wanted more power. There are also some good reviews around for the echo and makita/dolmar saws so I'd have a look at those as well as the usual stihl/husky Hope this helps
  19. hope these work
  20. Had a great time today thanks to all involved I'm in the process of putting pics on to my very slow pc so hope to get some posted ASAP Cheers Graham
  21. See you guys in the morning looking forward to it
  22. Right I'm back from work. what is the plan for tomorrow ? I'm quite happy to go wherever is most popular but need to know fairly soon as if some traveling is going to be involved I will need to start work much earlier than if people want to come down here. Really looking forward to meeting up and seeing how others do things Cheers Graham
  23. Checked with boss and its fine to come to the farm if people want to. My thought would be to meet somewhere easy i.e. maidstone services at j8 m20 at 9am ish and follow me to farm from there. I'm not going to be anywhere near a computer till thisevening so if anyone wants to contact me please ring on 07875523699 Cheers Graham
  24. If not I'm fairly sure I can get permission from my boss for a group of us to come to the farm I work on down here in Kent there are a few decent looking oaks that would be fair game and 7 acres of semi ancient wood. if people are interested ill ask first thing tomorrow and try to post a location to meet ASAP so let me know Cheers Graham
  25. Ok just google earthed it and I think I know where I'm going. If someone could shoot me a pm with some contact info then I can ring if I get really lost. Cheers Graham
