  1. Picked this up at a local boot fair in a very rusty but not too bad state at the time of purchase all I could make out through the rust was "Sweden" so thought it was worth a punt. Now I've got it cleaned up I found the marks as per the picture (G inside a square above "made in Sweden" blank on other side) so far Google can't seem to find any definitive answer as to its maker (closest guess I've found is early gransfors mostly due to the small amount of original blue paint on the head) so I thought I'd put it over to the collective knowledge of arbtalk and see if anyone knows A who made it and B is it likely to be any good.   2. 560xp on 18" Sugi bar running 3/8 full chisel 7pin sprocket. Extra bar length saves on bending for snedding and cross cutting

  5. I've had a pair for just over a year and they're just about ready to be replaced. They are really comfortable and light compared to anything I've tried at a similar price and the ability to chose your leg length at no extra cost is a very nice touch. For type A trousers I'd recommend them to anyone. I think going by the last catalogue they sent me Straus have recently released a new version too which is a bit more money but could be well worth a look if their first ones are anything to go by still only type A though
  6. I use that exact splitter at work and for the money it's a great bit of kit. So far I've not found a bit of wood knotty or otherwise that it can't get through, it is propperly road towable with indispention units however the tyres are only rated for 45mph and you need to add a light board to stay on the right side of plod, overall it's not the fastest splitter you can buy but it's much cheaper than the better known faster brands. so far it seems well designed and built and I'd happily recommend one Cheers Graham
  7. Any updates on these boots as I'm seriously considering a pair of them to replace my stein phantoms that are prety much worn out. at the mo I'm using my spare pair of haix Tibet forests but they are pretty big and heavy so I'm looking for something a bit lighter and better for climbing in

Hi guys so far as I'm aware th 18th is all good I've messaged the guy that has the targets ect but had no response as yet so unless I hear otherwise this will be climbing only and no shooting this time. the venue will be Egerton free church, chapel lane, Egerton, Ashford TN279BX. Depending on work ect I may have 2-3 others that are interested in coming so hopefully it'll be a good day
  12. Sadly no shooting on site but I do have a contact with woods and some knockdown targets for a bit of field target air gunning that may well want to come along for the climb so there is potential:)

Sunday's are a no go as the parking and tea urn are at the church I go to however Saturday's should be much more doable and the oaks I have permission to climb whenever so assuming a Saturday works with others then all we need is a date (from a quick look at the calendar I should be able to do the 11th or 18th) the location is in a little village called Egerton for anyone that's interested
  14. I looked seriously at the jimny but ended up going for a daihatsu terios simply because it has 5 doors and my brushcutter fits in whereas I'dve needed a roof rack forthe jimny. I've had mine coming up 18 months and it's been great always starts even on cold mornings and its supprised me with how capable it is off road considering its only on a/t tyres I've only been stuck once whilst folowing a tractor through some mud that any 4x4 would have struggled with. The fuel consumption on mine is mid thirties doing a 40 mile round trip for work every day mostly on A roads and country lanes however I wouldn't want to be doing motorways too often as any of the small 4x4s are geared a bit on the low side and you end up thrashing them just to keep up
  15. I'm on the outskirts of Ashford and well up for a rec climb/meet if and when one is being organised Could possibly have a venue with free parking, a working tea urn and some reasonable size oaks if it's of any help
  16. My 1962 fordson super dexta with a ferguson grader blade levelling out a 1.5-2 mile wood chip footpath for a local country estate, so much easier and enjoyable than raking it out buy hand
  17. Just a quick post to say how impressed I have been with the service I have had from rob. My husky 560s bar sprocket let go in the middle of a job yesterday afternoon so rather than replace it with another husky bar that isn't up to dealing with the oomph from a 560 I rang rob and ordered a nice Sugi pro solid, that was at 3.30 ish and my new bar arived before lunch today. Fantastically quick delivery and great advise/info on the phone mean that I will not hesitate to recomend chainsawbars to anyone that asks from now on. Many thanks Graham
  18. Another vote for Buck here I've had a 750 red point for a few years and can't fault it especially the fact that the lock keeps the blade closed as well as out so you don't get jabbed by an accidentally opened point and it has a usefull bottle opener/lanyard attachment built in
  19. Stein phantoms seem to be a very underrated boot I've had mine just over a year and they're still comfy and dry my only niggle with them is that for ground work the soles wear out way before the rest of the boot and they are not replaceable like the airstreams
  20. Remember that the only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked, better to ask it, be laughed at/mickey taken and know the answer than not ask and get shouted at or have an accident later on
  21. Took down a fig on Wednesday and now my forearms look like this Just thought I'd share so others could see and cover up better than I did to avoid these painful/annoying results
  22. I used to drive this truck occasionally and from memory it wasn't a bad bit of kit. It was ex French utility and pretty basic however with proper diff locks and low box it was very capable off road and would probably serve someone well for farm/forestry type jobs

Hi I have a 2013 550xp that isn't really getting enough use to justify keeping as I also have a 560xp and that has become my go to saw. the 550 is on a virtually new 15" husky bar and chain(paint still on the bar), has just had the hot start kit fitted, a new brake band, clutch bearing and sprocket and has been pretty well looked after. Just after your thoughts on what kind of price to put on it as they don't seem to come up 2nd hand that often and the last two I've seen on the bay were non runners. Not after offers at this point as I may still keep it as a backup saw but it'd be interesting to see what figures come up. Cheers Graham

If it's been at the previously mentioned company down South then it will have been worked hard and the crane if I recall corectly has been welded back together more than once as the boss was always saying the patu crane on the new one was much better built and that botexs fall to bits. I never saw this one as they had the new one while I was there so couldn't say for certain that it's the same one as in your pics but other responses seem to match up. Hope this helps
