    I'll try and get myself down, would be good to put a few names to faces. Will there be an opportunity to try my hand at SRT? I'm feeling left out but don't want to make a tit of myself in a competitive scenario. I'll save that for the drunken wang measuring.

    I'd reckon your best bet would be to stack the brash on your driveway, cut up ready to chip, butts facing forward, all clean, no rubbish in it, and ask politely for your local friendly tree cutter to chip it when they're passing. Should come to less than the price of hiring a chipper if you do everything you can to make life easy on them.

    What amazes me is that your dmm O lasted 2 years! Got six months out of mine before the gate became a joke! I'll stick to a 3 knot system and natural crotching, much less to worry about! And my Ali rigging crab is shiny as hell. Money well spent!

    I agree, which is why I said that I put the block below my anchor point, on thicker timber, to minimise the risk of it breaking. Put your reading glasses on gramps. Tbh if you're putting the tree anywhere near that point you ought to look at your working practices. Regarding the crab as a tip, Barry, I guess so long as the gate is facing away from the stem you're all good. There's minimal chance it'll open. Pretty certain it's not recommended though. Just my take on it mind, we all do things that others might not think are ideal.

    Personally I'd have 3 lads on the job, and traffic management for half a day to a day. You can make out to phone line to the left too, which complicates things. Two groundies would be best. One on the rigging and the other keeping the road clear/feeding the chipper. £600 for a 3 man day plus TM.

    I hear ya. To be honest I keep my rigging and anchor points on seperate stems where possible. I guess if you're not rigging huge lumps it doesn't matter so much. When I'm rigging bigger stuff though my rigging point is always far enough below my anchor that there's no chance of it snapping. I'd be wary of using a triple action crab for my tip because of the possibility of it rubbing open against branches or the stem. The pulley doesn't matter much at all, more the connection. Personally I use a pulley saver which Mr Shutler spliced for me, with a pinto rig, but if you're not bothered about it being retrievable you could just splice some tenex onto a pinto pulley (most other pulleys aren't designed to be used with textiles). Another option would be a pinto rig and maillon, but then there's the issue of steel vs. ali wear. Bloody hell it's a minefield!
