  1. Engage the switch, Put it in reverse, then go forwards and it should stay on. If the diff lock is not used often the actuator may get stiff and need opposite drive to engage.

I lost your number and couldn't find the post again (said I was rubbish at this forum lark) anyway I have the pto off now with the belts if you want to give me a call and I also have two bands sat in the workshop that your welcome to if your interested.

  4. I agree and I have now asked 3 companies to quote for this and none of them have turned up. If anybody has any contacts let me know. I did speak to fms at the APF and even the have not come back to me. Whilst I agree it needs some guarding to tick a box. The cab is rops and fops certificated anyway unlike most excavators even without guarding. To be honest the only thing that concerns me is the fact that there is no protection to stop anything coming through the front window. In reality a 60ft branch or tree 14inch diameter falling out of the shear is merely going to roll off the cab anyway. No fops protection is going to stop a broken branch spearing the window in the roof! I am thinking of changing the 'plastic' panel for a toughened glass. But then I can't think of any reason you would have anything leaning over the cab anyway. Just seams daft to me. Any suitable contact appreciated though

  8. If you have dry oak to dispose of, stack it up and get someone in to chip it for you. Shreddings will be worthless but g30 or g50 oak chip could be a tidy profit.
  9. We have done some propping in the past. We actually made the news papers many years ago after a Mulberry tree for the Shakespear trust split at the base and all 3 limbs ended up on the floor like a banana peel. We lifted the limbs and whilst they were supported we installed props under the limbs. Most important thing is to support the limb in the direction that's needed. We were supporting main limbs with lateral force so the braces were on around 45%. We used 50mm tube concreted into the ground on small pads, these were bolted to steel cups that I had fabricated to fit the profile of the limb. We used this material due to time constraints but did later design and provide a cost for some very nice Oak and wrought iron braces. Apparently though although the tree was VERY important, it didn't warrant £20k spending in it!! If your trying to support a vertical force then use the biggest diameter post or cut a large Oak post as big as you can. Have a cup fabricated to the profile of the limb and simply bolt it to the top. Having looked back at the trees we did (a second one was propped not long after the first) the most important thing is to get the cup to fit the limb. One of our cups was not quite right and you can clearly see how the bark is being forced away and the tree is putting on reactive growth around the support

  11. I sold one of these recently, exactly the same in full working order. It's still in the yard as hasn't been collected yet. It's being exported and the buyer has asked me to remove the pto gear box and associated belts as they will put an electric motor on it and it won't fit in a container with the gearbox on. I don't know what powers this one but if your interested in it let me know

  13. Where to start!! Within the last 18 months of ownership I think i spent about 9k on it. New front brakes complete, new rear spring off side, gearbox and clutch, rear wheel bearings and a drum ( I have an axle sat in the yard for it too, forgot I should have given it to you) new drag link, front wheel bearings, track rod, radiator, I think the rest was things like lights wiring and other stuff that generally wears
  14. Glad my old lorry is keeping you busy. That gearbox was a recon about 18 months ago. Had a new clutch at the same time too!
  15. I have priced two helicopter jobs. Both jobs were changed by the client as the cost was too hi. Apparently the important ground they were trying to save was not that important! There are 3 or 4 companies operating in the uk and all are similar priced. Allow £1200 per hour plus transportation (flying) to the possition of work. They also need a landing pad for breaks/ fuel/ set down at end of day and the distance to this is also chargeable. On the one job I quoted, the landing place was so far from the worksite that with transportation to site and pilot accommodation ( they won't stay in a B and B) it was around £15000 per day

  17. You get what you pay for, if the price seams reasonable but the service is not then the price is clearly too cheep. I have used the same company for years to convert l200 tippers transits and 7.5 tonners. They were always what I consider to be reasonably priced but the last build took 3 months for a new l200 tipper. Next time I will pay twice the price and know I am paying for value in the build and the service. After all, don't you just hate it when a customer says although you have come highly recommended for you arboricultural work, and you attention to detail on your quote was exceptional, you didn't get the job because some bloke in the pub was cheaper and you all do the same job!!
  18. Hi All. Glad the wagon is going well for you. Be careful with that length. I looked into doing that at 16 ft but the weight behind the rear axle will be so great that the front brakes will hardly work. I had a 16 ft bin on it once loaded fairly well. When I excelerated the front came if the ground.

  20. It's a revolution HD wheel with carbide pockets. Still got one or two things to sort on her before I am happy with the final result but she is truly a beast and a credit to Justin's engineering thought processes. Bigger and over engineered is always better!!!!

  23. As far as I know Geoff Sipson in Coventry still has my old 18 tonner with Hiab piped for grab and hook lift for sale. I had it 6 years and it's a brilliant lorry. I still have two skips for it sat in my yard, one compactor and one high sided for brash and logs that I will sell. I only part exes it for much newer 26 tonner
  24. Just noticed this post. I have just put our lorry in eBay it's item number 272140192037 or http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=272140192037. She is a 2000 Iveco 180e23 with Hiab 145 and hook lift with large chip bin and a low compactor bin. It's being replaced with a 26 ton similar vehicle and will go for part ex if there's no interest
