  1. Totally know what you mean !!, here in Portugal some of the guys are pure gorillas, and use big bars all day long on old heavy metal cased saws. my cs8000 80cc Echo is enough with a small bar 28" on , but i have seen folks using it with a 48"....respect.
  2. Really great Tom, looks good, can you please PM a rough price please as i am wanting to change my disco soon for a 90 around the same age as the one you have just bought. Thanks steve

as Spud has just said Ebay , i have seen old Spares and repairs ones go for peanuts and you may be able to use the head. steve
  4. They are "The Stone Pine "(Pinus pinea),sometimes called Umbrella Pines, great trees , was working in some today , you often find them joining up like that, it is also where pine nuts come from .....lots of them here in Portugal, and they are the only true Native tree.and are resistant to the Pine Wilt Nematode that is devastating all of the rest of our pines. Steve
  5. Hi there, Thought I should post an update to close the thread so to speak. After totally cleaning the cylinder head of all aluminium and doing the same to the Piston , and fitting a set of genuine CS-8000 piston rings. she now runs well, it needed a good tune to begin with, but after 2 weeks of use all is well,I am still running it a bit rich and will adjust it down a bit next week. Great saw, very powerful esp at mid range....but slightly heavy to use all day !! if anyone can get hold of a CS-8000 piston please let me know as i would like to change it at some point in the future as you can see the piston top was not that great !! BIG BIG THANKS TO SPUD !!! your old school info was a great help Thanks Steve
  6. I didn't want to clutter the board with unnecessary threads, so will I ask here, is there an chain oil adjuster on the 200T ? thanks. steve

  11. as i said previously Tree surgery is new here, so the money and the work is there. you just have to have the get up and go to achieve it.
  12. it is very good money when you consider rent is a pittance out here, and property is dirt cheap. and our Yearly council tax is equal to what you would pay for one month, steve
  13. to be honest they are quite good , and the cost of living is way cheaper than UK. and there are some beautiful old trees, and loads of tall eucalyptus, we manage to charge 15 Euros an hour for simple jobs and way more for the difficult jobs . if you had a job just as a cutter/feller you can expect to bring home around €320 a week. with costs paid. ie fuel chains etc etc. steve
  14. Yes , there are only 5 Tree surgery companies in the whole country, and one of them is us. Vanessa my climber is one of only 3 women climbers, up until recently they would use a chain and a tractor to do tree surgery !!! , now they have realised the benefits of proper tree work,. and normal forestry is huge here, you have to remember , Portugal is the largest forested country in Western Europe.with some of the oldest trees as well. Great place to live and work ..... as long as you dont believe everything the BBC`s Robert Peston has to say about the country. ;-) http://www.forestry.pt/ steve
  15. That is a beauty, here in Portugal we have some lovely old monsters.. i will try to find time to put a Photo thread together for you to see. John P have you thought about moving to Portugal ?? far more trees than Spain, plus the people are FAR more friendlier. steve
  16. Open Pine cones make amazing fire lighters , no fuel or chemical firelighters needed. and a good heat is reached. steve
