  1. Cougar blue is good too on a SJ:)
  2. I tried a sj at a rec climb and loved it finally bought one used it for a few months and now have gone back to a hitch, having no pulley really slows life down when limb walking as you have to feed out a load of rope underneeth you to keep letting slack out. Personal opinion though. Like Mark said depends on natural ability and preference. You climb the tree the gizmo is just there to suit your style. Also I find situations were self tending is a pain in the arse
  3. Nice, even better than having a hat on or a hood up with ear defenders as you get less protection. I like the idea of plugs will have to give them a go at some point, I like the minimalist side to it all + it's one less thing on my helmet to fall off and break!
  4. Only downside to the ear plugs is cold ears in the winter and getting whipped on the ears by twigs
  5. I still only have an zk1 and use it all the time, haven't extensively used the zk2 so can't compare very well but. From my brief use of one it feels refined and smooth. My theory is if its not broken don't fix it but its up to you and your £££
  6. As per needing a metal ring you can just add one by tying an alpine butterfly not as neat but works
  7. It's like you read my mind, that is what I was thinking of running, run a VT and pulley as the adjuster to adjust to suitable length, I find sometimes on full stretch I could do with a foot more of lanyard
  8. What's the score with using friction cord as a lanyard ? Any opinions? Arran
  9. Totally agree with that, a quick glance every so often to make sure you are covering the sound amount of tree if not more , I always tell the other climber to get down first and I will make sure his cambium saver retrieves and if not I go grab it for him and also If we have missed any cuts I can go nip it in before i get down Then when i get down we can take the piss out of eachothers side of the tree and then jump up the next one (Sorry off topic but nice to hear someone with same opinions )
  10. 2nd on silky, hate having loads of bits and bobs hanging off my harness
  11. At one of the firms i work for we always go 2 up on street tree reductions and work gets smashed out and you can have a laugh and joke when working. also if someone needs rescuing you are on them in seconds pretty much. Best type of rescue is a self rescue if that cannot be achieved just fell the tree
  12. Thanks everyone will look into the cards that have been mentioned.
  13. sounds like a plan. The weather is just turning bad here, will be with you in a couple of weeks
  14. How big is your team/ what type of tree work was you doing/ what were your targets? ie public, vehicles etc etc ?
  15. I cut left and right handed, when cutting and holding it stops your wrist/ forearm being above the bar or below the bar and branch. if that makes sense
  16. Thanks folks, am out to Auckland at the end of the month, will PM you goaty this evening thanks buddy
  17. Just a really rough question of how much 357XP's go for second hand? I am not up to date on all that lark The one I have is in average condition and only used for PJ's on the occasional weekend, so hasnt been spanked. bought it new a year and half ago. There are a few on ebay ranging from about 250 to 375, but they are being sold buy people who are power sellers so maybe pricing them up as more than what they are worth? Any help would be great Cheers Arran
  18. How have you folks moved your money about when you travel, have a Visa debit card as usual, and will be setting up a NZ bank account when i get out there as I was advised that is easier that way. Will my bank card work abroad? I cant see it being sensible to carry everything in cash? Can i Just do an internet bank transfer when I am over there? Thanks Arran
  19. Jogging to and from the chipper will certainly make you fit as a flea, if the lads were to do it off there own back then awesome. One to remember is stamina comes with age. but if attitude is the problem then
  20. Worn in and some The worn in comfy stage has been and gone now They are still in one piece though so will be worn for a long time yet I feel Nice that everything else has held together within reason and its just sheer use that is softening them up
  21. It might just be me but It feels like after 8 months of having my airstreams they are going really soft and flexible? Shame really because they have held up really well? Happen to anyway else?
  22. I love mine, wore them all the time to climb in really comfy fit well and the long leg for me is brilliant. Split the crouch out in mine so badly they cant be sown back up so just wear shorts underneath. Will be buying another pair really rate them
  23.
