  1. Side strop doesn't make you a good climber, climbing ability does start from the bottom, I've seen some wicked climbers still using end on end
  2. Has anyone tried it how did you get on?
  3. Just use a flat file, do my geckos all the time, they come up beautiful and shinning after
  4. All you need is a pantin, sling and Krab (for chest loop ) Going up a single line just use your hitch, clip your chest loop Krab into the top whole on your hitch climber and ascend using a foot pantin if your hitch is tending right you can fly up tree, but not good for real long ascents
  5. Through writtle is your best bet like Felix said
  6. Incase you get your throwline stuck It happens to everyone and if you don't carry ladders it's worth it Footlocking is good as long as you can isolate your top anchor and it's no more than 20 metres, it's far easier to bang a throwline into the tree let it come down the backside not having to worry about isolating your anchor and then base tie your climbing / access line and ascend SRT all depends what work you do Horses for courses
  7. Works alright, if you have a long ascent double rope, can you a normal hand ascender and is still comfortable
  8. Yeh I get ya I've been using a SJ as back up for ascent anyway rightly or wrongly, was just curious
  9. Didn't think it was to be honest , Ben lightfoot uses one with a wrench I believe ?
  10. What do you mean by reliability dude? I had a load and it kept catching the saw when it was hanging off the back of my harness (just one of them things) and was plucking strands really easily
  11. Are lockjacks and spiderjacks rated to be used as a back up when ascending SRT?
  12. Thanks dude
  13. Hallo dude how are you doing? Hope all is well? Yeh buddy on the other Side of the world might be back in october, will see we're this journey takes me
  14. Are there any good cobblers in auckland that you know of dude?
  15. I've heard that aswell but its the grey mid sole that's knackered. Bummer
  16. Soles have really worn out on the edge, anyone else has the same problem?) shame really as I like them Arran
  17. Sweet mines only had a few months climbing on it so got a while till the body goes hopefully. I think the biggest change I've had to make is when going out on a large limb pulling a load of rope through in front of me. So the rope flows through the SJ.
  18. Easy but fun way to kill clutches I'm doing one every 3 weeks at the moment and I use the brake as it should be used, how is everyone else doing ?
  19. Yes Was over a branch, I am hoping that the rope will be ok.... Will climb on it tomorrow and see ,on the upside it was well fun got to think positive about these situations
  20. I bombed out a tree as you do if you've got a spiderjack, glazed one side of my rope? Has this happend to anyone ? !
  21. I've tried the SJ on SRT and it works to a degree like you said but isn't that great, that's what got my brain ticking The uni is next on the list I like the full chaff experience
  22. I love my SJ when I'm using DRT, everything rubbish about a hitch it eliminates
  23. I know i know only 30kg heavier though!
  24. Bit long winded but... There are a handful of mechanical devices to climb on like the lock jack spiderjack zig zag etc. only rated for DRT What is stopping say a 60kg climber using these devices SRT without a rope wrench? As opposed to a 120kg climber using them DRT with a pulley saver installed? Problems being the way the device is loaded? Gripping to tight ?
  25. If you've got a 201 clip the scabbard back on every time your going to move. I've been doing this for a month and it is awesome really can't rate it enough. Will save you money in the long run and doesn't waste much time.
