  1. Good job. Any particular reason for taking the centre of the hinge out?
  2. I cant wait to start it. You have to dig soil pits? How do you analyze them and what do you do? Any thing that can i read up on to prepare? sounds exciting! Genuinely!
  3. a month to do one module, not bad, how many hours in that month do you think you spent doing it? Just signed up today so hope to get it in the post next week some time. Going to try complete it by next june! Possible you think?
  4. Am about to to distance learning level 2 cert in arb. Will be able to do it as quick or slow as i like. Anyone done it like this and how long did it take you to complete?
  5. on the ground and chipped in a day then a day for a couple of boys moving the timber. If the timber was staying then couldnt charge more than a grand, but as you gota move it all thats gota to be worth 300ish extra so say £1300.
  6. ah well let me know if it works in real life then! In my mind the only proble may be getting the chip to start moving out with you standing partly in the way of where its going to end up... but maybe you could slip quickly out the way and not get burried!
  7. ldv maxus maybe? bulkhead fitted chip into the back then get some campervan wedges under the front wheels and ease the chip out! Something ive been thinking of lately...
  8. I started in forestry hand cutting clear fell spruce and you sure do learn the advantages of a super sharp chain (saves arm/wrist/hand ache and fuel) and a to fell a tree. Great basis to go onto arb where you can take your time a bit more. Amazed at the number of arb guys who cannot sharpen a chain properly or not at all and have to take it home to sharpen on the bench!
  9. Thanks for the kind offer, slack, but think I will wait for it to to be switched off and do it in a couple of hours that way. Think the utility company would only prune to keep it a certain distance away but not sure?
  10. Thanks for the reply. I will definately get a shutdown. Do I have to pay or is it just a case of phoning them now and waiting?
  11. I have been asked by customer to take down a sycamore that is growing directly below a power line that has 3 wires(each one below the one above) that look like to me to have no sheath around them. Is this a LV line as it is only going to the house so 240v? The tree grows around the line not touching apart from a couple of very small twigs and then grows above the lines. To dismantle the tree you would have to be under 3m from the lines. I have no experience at at power line work but I think that i may have to ring the power company up to get it switched off for the day or a few hours at least. How long do they take to come out? Will I be able to do it this winter? In pembrokeshire. Cheers
  12. I think the layout looks very nice considering its a diy site, mine is too, i am constantly tweaking little bits every few days
  13. some interesting points made there by you guys who obviously know what your talking about. Heres my site! Sustainable Woodland Services - Tree Surgery for Pembs
  14. lowest ive been paid to plant tree without guard on any site is 9 and a half pence, was sitka on a replant site. and that was me working for someone else. If its your job id expect a bit more
  15. Myerscough dont do it anymore, only the level 2 for some reason. Going to college is not an option for me as they are all 100s of miles away. Distance learning with treelife is the only option available at the moment anyway..
  16. I will have around 3 or 4 tonnes of ash avaiabe in a months time roadside. 2.5m lengths. 5 miles from penblewin roundabout. any offers?
  17. Apart from tree life, are there other providers of a lebel 4 arb qualification that I could do distance learning.I have been on the tools for around 4 years and I would like to become able to carry out tree surveys and go down a more academic route.
  18. What is a good idea to have and what is required by law to carry out and write tree reports for a customer?
  19. yeah it does sound like that. saw seems fine. thanks guys
  20. Whats blow by? I assume nothing to worry about?
  21. The spark plug was looking a little white so I decided to take a look with exhaust off at the piston of my 365 x torq which i have modded to make a 372. I can see 2 burnt areas just under the ring either side of centre. I cannot see any vertical scoring at all though. I then checked the boot clamp and the cross headed screw that holds it on tight was wayyy loose so i tightened it up. What are your thoughts guys? new piston? Its not done much work a couple of weeks felling big stuff for harvester.
  22. Do you think it is worth entering a 5 acre block of broadleaf wood into Glastir? The woodland has no tracks and has been unmanaged for decades. What are the rates they pay for thinning or clear felling small sections?
  23. A customer has asked me to give some sort of written report on the state of their trees alongside footpath through their woodland. They will be opening their woodland to the public. I have walked through and noted which ones I deem to need work on to make safe. I don't have any academic arboricultural training other than nptc stuff is it still ok to just use my experience and nptc training to write such a report? Or do you think best to sub out to someone with tree report writing experience? I think I am capable of such a task as I did a degree in biological sciences but not tree related at all. If I was to write it what should it include? would a map be desirable or just it should be one sheet of A4 stating what work was carried out briefly and that they should continue to carry on periodic checks on the state and health of their trees and after any excessive winds? Thanks for any input guys!
  24. so a 200l drum works out at £3.42 a litre bit too expensive to justify it for me
