  1. I use titebond two for most stuff, never had a problem with it, its food safe and easy to use. If I need to gap fill too I use gorrila expanding glue, dearer, but also good.
  2. Have to own the woodland for 2 years before its tax exempt, but wouldn't matter in this case.
  3. Don't you need 3 for a pow wow? Maybe you should come too clive, and show us how its done properly!
  4. Yeah that's cool, no expert though. When its cooler, we will arrange something. Usually do it pretty sporadicly when I end up with couple of hours free. But wanna try ti do quite a lot this year so will have to dedicate a bit of time to it.
  5. Serious bit of cheating going on there!
  6. Get sawing then bud.
  7. Next couple of weeks bit tricky for me too. Probably be able to sort something out for later in august. If you can post a pic of the sort/style of bench u wanna make, then I can get some timber planed and ready to joint. I need to make a few benches anyway so its a good excuse. Probably make it out of ash rather than oak though as ive loads if it. If you got oak waiting to be milled you would be welcome to use my alaskan when the weather cools down.
  8. Outside of oven gets warm to touch, not burning hot. Only around mouth gets hot. Looks awesome when you fire it up and flames are licking out the mouth. If I was to build one again, it would be cob all the way. Eco friendly, cheap as chips and looks amazingly organic when finished.
  9. The gruffalo . Brick and log foundation, fire bricks in base if oven. Everything else is cob. Except for tyres etc.
  10. Use cob, clay, sand straw mixed . Create shape of oven with sand build cob around it, wait couple of days and remove sand through door. Sorted. This method gives u great artistic licence, as you can make ant shape u like. Pics to follow.
  11. Good work matey. Why oak legs, not enough wrc?
  12. Been looking at the woodrat on line, and it looks like a top jig, not paticularly easy to buy though. Only 3 UK stockists, none ofvwhich have a website worth seeing. Can't even get a hint at a price anywhere.
  13. Made a few boxes/chests in the same way. Get a good dry log, really dry. Use best lookin bark face as top to create treasure chest type round top. Use bandsaw to cut shape of chest around the top. Then use bandsaw to cut off lid. Use mortiser or chisel/drill to hollow out base and lid.attatch lid with hinges and attatch clasp etc. Looks awesome when finished. Got one roughed out in workshop.will add picture soon to make clearer James
  14. Turning into a top box, and thread. How does the woodrat cope with inconsistent dovetails?
  15. I agree with Alec to an extent, however when milling the boards for the top, make sure there at least afoot too long, preferably two,to allow for end cracking. Are you hiring in the lucas? maybe find out if he has the slabbing atatchment for it,then you could couldtake dimensional lumber off the top for legs, rails, braces etc, then when nearing the middle take one 8" pass down the middle, change to the slabber and take three or so 2" boards off with it that are already cut in half, this should give you enough top for two or three tables. then back to the circular blade and crack on with dimensional or 8" boards to finish off. Theres a good few projects in that stick!
  16. Your maths was right, except you were working out for a 4.5ft square cant, not round. should be pi x r2 x h so 3.14 x (27x27) x 96=219749 cu inches. divide by 1728 = 127 cu ft. so hoppus foot around 100 as bigj said. Still a ridulous price at 35 a cube.
  17. No worries ed. Give me a shout when you wanna get started. Whats your best milling saw?
  18. Nice, madness are a great live band:)
  19. Looks a nice setup. Are you cutting through or half blind joints?
  20. Welcome to come up to my workshop whenever you like mate. Lots of wood to play with. It's not massive but reasonably well tooled. I could teach you the basics over a couple of evenings or something. Practice is the key. I used to run a beginners carpentry course, but not anymore. What sort of things u interested in? Project in mind?
  21. Thanks guys, some useful options. Pm sent Steve.
  22. Nasty, I feel for you, but on the plus side, it makes me feel better about my mess ups. If its good enough from the pros, its good enough for me:) Most of my problems stem from the fact that I can't get wood below 15%mc in my workshop/store. Trying to think of cheap simple ways of addressing this at the mo, but not having a lot of luck. James
  23. Hi all, Its my partners birthday next month and she says she wants a wood turning lesson to help build her confidence. Any one know of anyone good doing one on one tuition. The closer to m.k. the better. Thanks James
  24. My favourite woods to burn are, in no paticular order: Free Dry Free. Hope this helps. James
