  1. And then the import tax and courier holding charges hit... In theory husky and stihl offer "worldwide warranties" so no matter where or who from you bought your saw, your local dealer should fix it for you under warranty.
  2. Welcome to the forum. People burning the wood are not likely to be sniffing up as much fine dust as you, I'd be happy to sell it. Do you try to protect yourself at all when milling? (dust mask? or some such item?)
  3. At home (the Netherlands) we use 4ft gates hung at about 50 degrees (or 120 if you like ) with a short post behind it so it cannot quite open 90 degrees. I've never seen one fail, but like with any gates they need periodical checking for "lamb-tightness" They're Big Continental Bull, sheep, feral goat and tame pony proof.
  4. Lightning strike?
  5. I'd blame that on the weather:001_cool:
  6. What's the item number, I'll have a look? pm me if you'd rather not disclose the (potential) bargain of the month.
  7. Don't! Have you actually seen the tractor? Does the price seem to good to be true? Is it located on the Shetland isles (or somewhere else sparsely populated) so you won't go looking at it? Do a search of completed listings with the same auction title. Look at the sellers feedback score, as well as what items they've sold before.
  8. If you can find a bit of tube of the same internal diameter as the external diameter of the pin, cut an inch or so. Then you can push it in "sideways" and turn it in the tube. Put the tube against the piston and push it through into the piston, it needs to be one quick motion.
  9. Confusing statement? One emits carbon, the other absorbs?
  10. 19 species of Araucaria (or so wikipedia tells me), but only one of them is monkey puzzle?
  11. Never heard of that before, and None of that going on so far...
  12. I have a set of both mentioned above and fully agree on the lidl ones (batt cover, good radio, handy mike thingy) but I've found the sound reduction a little slow sometimes. I have a husky set on my helmet, and I find the radio reception generally quite poor, getting worse as the batteries get lower. I'd recommend recharging the batteries every three days or so rather than wait till they're empty. I also use them with my iPod. I stuck a little cradle in the free space inside the helmet, set up a long playlist and hit play. Works well but: they switch between aux input and radio automatically, quite slowly. When they "hear" the silence between track or a song fades to very quiet, it switches back to radio. Then when the next song starts it switches back to aux but with a short delay. So the first word of the song is lost. Quite annoying. The other thing is the plastic, which is in true husky style, piss-poor at first sight but seems to still not break. They are also a rather hideous sort of orange, matching nothing. (They really don't look at all right with my man-bag). I got mine from "abbey pro" who were anything but pro, took a lot of money and even more hassle plus two weeks(!) to get them to me.
  13. I love vosa. They do a very unthankful job, a bit like parking meter guys nobody seems to like them. But with the amount of vehicles I see on the road that I'd really rather not share the road with, I'm glad they're there. And yes, some of them will be annoying nitpickers, and some will be after a promotion. But in general, they're normal people, just doing their -very important- job. Hurray for Vosa.
  14. A: very bad idea! B: you'll never get it insured, give up now while you still have the will to live. C: never. So, I'll come and take it off your hands tomorrow, I won't charge much to take it away for you :sneaky:
  15. I'd make the attachment point on that top arm so you can move it. Even if only temporarily. That way you can fiddle with it and get the right balance between lift height and weight, to suit your tractor and trees. (More height=less weight and vice versa)
  16. First swallow here in south Lincolnshire here yesterday.
  17. Bookmarked! Thanks a lot.
  18. I could be wrong, as to assume has the potential to make an ass of u & me...
  19. I don't, I just presumed... But I made that assumption based on the posts friend Braki has made so far. One asks for advise on "a blog i've started" though that's been running for years already, and this.
  20. Quite sad really, pretending to ask a question just so other people may read your blog....
  21. 12000 tons! That's about 450 artics. Presuming a (very very generous) yield of 100t/acre, you're talking of clear-felling 120 acres. There's no way one person with one tractor is going to make that happen, so shall we assume it was a typo? (Especially as you said you got a Small woodland...).
  22. For a right handed person (which is most of us) it is generally easier to use a tool like that in a right-to-left sweeping motion. This way the dominant right arm does most of the pushing. When moved thus, a counterclockwise rotation of the head moves the brush away from the vegetation yet to be cut. It also works in a "pulling cut" kind of way, which is helpful when cutting later stuff. I reckon...
  23. Looks like fun! Would the hiab lift the wee tractor? So you could carry it to a job on the truck?
