    Gloves

Wear them all the time. Leather in the dry, a pair of Arbotec gell in the summer wet. Winter rain and snow its time for rubberised gloves or military cold weather mitts. No climbing yet though. I've worn leather gloves all through my other career, so used to doing everything in them, from typing to photography.
  2. Thanks for the thought. I've a good mate who's an auto sparky whose garage is yards from where the Ranger is. First port of call will be his ramp for the tow and wiring. He does a great deal of diagnostics for the area's garages, so I'm confident it'll go OK.
  3. Had a look today and it is shockingly pristine. For an 07 plate. London dealer stamp on the servicing. I don't think it has ever been off-road. No tow bar, which bodes well for the clutch, but an instant necessary item. The body work is scratch and dent free. Odd choice as a Chelsea Tractor though. The mini seats and rear cab area look unused, and I mean showroom-clean unused. Too much of a good thing? Think I'll have a punt
  4. Thanks so far. Going to have a play in it in a couple of hours. Considered all sorts, even ex mil landys, but will have to do some big motorway miles on occassion.
  5. Going to have a look at one of these as my first arbtruck. Balancing occasional kid school collection with a work 4x4. If anyone has/had a Ranger of this vintage I'd appreciate any comments. 07 plate, 71,000 miles, 2.5 TDCi 4x4 Supercab Thunder model. cheers
  6. Great comment and post Rob. Pretty much exactly a post of mine on FB. My wife spent 8 years watching me disappear off to the Gulf. I got on with the job, and she did too, but always with the fear that something may happen to me. Even harder for the soldiers wives, who live in dread of the next announcement on the news. Please support this guys. Cheers
  7. Bit of shameless trolling there, luftwaffe. Back to the topic in hand. Doing my 34,35 next week and wondering if there will be enough downed trees for it?
  8. Sitting in Cummingston I guess I'm just north of Inverness, but certainly beaten by Ullapool, Ålesund and Bergen! My last couple of Nimrod flights were past Bergen. Stunning looking place, just didn't get to get out and play there. Good snow up in the hills today.
  9. A good 5 or 6 inches lying up here in Moray once you get a little bit of height. Ringing up some logs for firewood kept me nice and toasty
  10. An hour's drying out and my 346 is up and running, sweet as anything.
  11. Can't believe I read this thread a couple of days ago and then watched in horror today as my 346 went for a swim! Emptied, plug out, filter off and blown through. Couple of pulls upside down to clear out. No joy though. In the shop for a check over, and a new bar, as the tree ate that too. Bugger!

    Winter wear!

Cheers for that! 2 pairs of Tegera gloves on order.
  13. And then for all the new toys I learn about, it's my bleedin' Mastercard! Certainly have to echo all the comments before. And my missus loves the lunges!
  14. Naked lunge on Mr Blairs thread?
  15. All my purchases were quickly processed and delivered. Honest with the "Scottish tax" on postage. Still awaiting my free 660 though, LOL. My wife is now terrified as I'm going to be working near the new shop!!
  16. This youngster was spotted back at the end of June. Taken on my iPhone from about 4 feet away. Quite happy to sleep on until the strimmers started up! Quite magical to get this close.
  17. Whisper.... just don't tell him I was still being paid by the RAF! (Almost MaccyD's)
  18. Back in April I paid £440 up here for CS30/31 training. The assessment for both came to £230. There's a rough guide to costs. As to getting experience, I spent 3 months working for free up here.... and I'm 45. I would suggest you put some smart..ish clothes on and go knocking on the lists you've been helped with above. Offer to work for free on days out of class, pay your tuition with a job at MaccyD's. No one will help someone that doesn't show some gumption and determination. Show some spark doing the above and you have hope. My tuppence.
  19. Very handy. Thanks for posting.
  20. Dry and bright over in Embra. Down here for an IT course and drove past the DeLisle boys on the Colintin Road. Their arbtruck has more flashing lights than a fire-engine. Nice!
  21. I'm too old to worry about upsetting the customer if the garden is covered. One of the first jobs I looked at even the patio was covered in dog mess. I told them I'd come back to assess the job only once they'd cleaned up. Amazingly they did and I got the job too.
  22. If you get a stove have a look at the metal fans that sit on them. One of my mates uses one and it's magic for shifting warm air around his cottage more effectively. I was skeptical but he swears by it, not at it. Not that cheap though for what they are.
  23. Damp cloth and wood ash works for me. No chemicals!
  24. You ought to title it "The emasculated fox" ! Great work.
  25. I echo tommer9 on the 346 husky. Having started this year with the Stihl 290, I found it heavy, not too aggressive and a steady cutter, fine for a bit of cross-cutting. A lot of the views on here recommended the 346XP, so I gave that a go. The difference is remarkable, the 346XP being slightly lighter , better balanced and much more comfortable to use through the day. Much nicer for snedding. First saw I pick up. I kept the 290 as a useful back-up saw. Both have 15" Bars on them.
