1. Couple of larger climbs last week on mine. The Yale XTC Fire 1/2" runs well through it. Self tended nicely above about 15ft. I've a TreeMotion which I think I'll shorten the bridge on, as I'll get a greater amount fed to the zigzag per pull compared to the standard setup. Tried another 13mm rope and it was poor with the zigzag, will find out which one it was. No indication of the wear seen on the previous pictures.

Hi mate. Heading south to Holmfirth tomorrow for 40/41 or whatever the equivalent is now, plus tracked MEWP and the new Emergency planning course. Hoping their weather is as good as Moray's is.

3. Brake band went today. Off to the dealer in the morning. Great saw though.
4. Shoes!? Might as well have been an advert for tampons. Great video though. Has any arb firm in the UK ever put an advert on the telly?
5. This is the same one as the Draper model you showed. I've used it successfully over the last two years. Securefix direct have the extra shear pins and sell strops too, look at their website instead of the eBay page. Easy to open up and clean and regrease. Worth getting yourself a decent bull rope for the taller stuff you want to pull over.

TrioBrake

Can understand how the trio came about but think it would snag too much. I'm a chain-brake fan. When you're snedding at speed you can end up reaching across that chain before its run down. Yes, it promotes wear on the brake band, but 2 years in and my 346 hasn't suffered from it. Not sure what the 550 will do yet, but no issues so far. The last couple of weeks I've done a lot of work on steep slopes and walking and snedding over snow-covered beech stems on the ground. It's really not a place to have a casual attitude to using the brake. I must admit I like the idea of getting a trio 346 and converting it back.

Ropes

Running my zigzag on 13mm XTC Fire, which is static. No issues so far. Not tried it on anything thinner though to be able to state a difference. Hope this helps? I'm sure there'll be some more comments along shortly!
8. Any chance of an update from those that are using this saw?
9. This is what I use too. Great alternative to the expensive Tirfors. It is a heavy carry in to the wood, but worth its weight once you've got it there.
10. An awful accident. Thoughts go out to his family and friends.
11. Pro bar arrived. Thanks Rob. Small problem with it though. It looks that good, do I mount it on my chainsaw or on the wall?
12. Signed up too. £30 was a nice price. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
13. Nice one mate, it's a good start. Jim and Dave are both good guys. Jim taught me climbing. Down there next month for more stuff at TKF.
14. Not a chance. Goes against how you deal with windthrow. A line to the top and winch it round away from the fence if that was possible, then fell from the bottom. Or just fell from the bottom to separate the root plate, fence gets it, and you walk away without a Darwin award.
15. Good luck getting started. Recommend the Silky Zubat 330 (just fitted a fresh blade on mine after 18 months). Other products are available :-) As the others have said, they're lethal bits of kit. Treat it as of its infected with HIV and you may stay cut free for a bit longer than most. I think most of the guys and gals on here have been bitten by them. Have fun. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
16. Been running my 576xp (not autotune) for a year now, Jon. 18" bar and 26" bar on it. Love it for big wood ringing. Chomps through quite happily. Last week at Knockando dropped a 44" dead elm with it running the 26 and it was sweet all the way round. Then ate through the stem ringing up afterwards. If I was only needing up to 18" I would have taken a 560, but I'm running the 576 for the bigger stuff and a 550/346 for everything else. I've not used a 372 so can't compare to that though.
17. Jonesie, thanks so much for putting one of these on the Xmas Raffle. Used the one you sent me today and it was a revelation. I ran Yale XTC Fire through it and it made going up the tree a breeze. One hand below and one above to about 15 feet and then it self-tended quite nicely. Now really looking forward to using it on a big beech on Monday. Did notice the swivel is fairly firm, but didn't cause me any issues.
18. You're not kidding Pete. Bit like Kerplunk. Pull the wrong stem out and it'll all go downstream. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
19. Early prep. Clearing beech out of a larch stand in preparation for next season's pheasant shoot. A chance to clear along a stream at the bottom of a small gorge too. Only way out for the timber is to winch out.
20. Stop thinking Jon and go for it. If I didn't want my 550xpg for woods work I'd have gone for the 560 with 15" instead. You know it makes sense.
21. Told about this the other day, so will look into joining too.
22. Going to try mine on Monday on 1/2" Yale Fire and Magma-ice. In the meantime. "The Excavator"
23. I specify on the delivery instructions what to do of I'm not in. The local delivery drivers are friendly and I've had no issues at all. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
24. Petzl Zigzag arrived from Jonesie. Cheers Looking forward to putting it to good use!
