  1. We brought our stove into the room using a 90 deg bend. A fireboard seals the fireplace and we tiled it, which acts like a large radiator long after the stove is out. Obviously far more heats stays in the room and we shift it out the living room door with an ecofan. (Which works!) Added bonus with the rear flue is that when we ran out of gas for our hob we just cooked the pots on top of the stove. :-)
  2. Congratulations. Wishing them many happy years ahead.
  3. Got carried away today and ordered a 550xpg. Chilly fingers today with my 346. Note. I am NOT selling my 346. It's awesome.

    Stihl 2013

You have to remember that blokes don't mature. We just get older.
  5. Arbtalk T-shirt arrived today. Cheers Steve. Chuffed to bits.
  6. Are you talking about Ron, Matt? Think he might have stopped climbing now. An amazing guy right enough.

    Aviemore area

I'm an hour further north from Kincraig. Sorry, don't know the teams there-abouts. Had a couple of bits and pieces around Aviemore but nothing that I could offer you I'm afraid. Top tip. You definitely want to be able to drive by the time you move. You want to keep an eye out for any work involving the future dualling of the A9. Plenty of roadside trees along that way.
  8. Very nice. Does it have to be road taxed?
  9. After suffering a blown engine on this beast I finally got a chance to get a logo on the sides and back.
  10. I'm in WoodEd's gang for both those saws. But the 346xp makes me grin the most, especially doing woodland work with a 13" bar. It's just so nippy when snedding. Lining up to buy a 550xpg so it'll be interesting to see if it steals the crown from the 346 after its been worked hard.
  11. 2011 model, bought new last January. The filters on the diagrams look the same, whether standard XP or XP Autotune, so I imagine they are cross-compatible.
  12. Can you confirm what part number you have for your filter Spruce? Looking at the part (and replacement) on my standard 576xp, it's the one from the Autotune version parts diagram. Interested to see which one you have.
  13. I use 2 and 29 around the estate. As said previously they do seem to be ignored, but once they're up it usually stops everyone bar those who are testing Darwin's theory. Bought from Yve so far. Could probably use a couple of 33's in case the tree goes over the road
  14. Did you go for the one that needs the hi top cover, Spruce?
  15. As it stands I can get someone else in to do the job if it was important. My days are not fixed either, as I can chop and change (scuse the pun) through the month depending on personal workload. I invoice days for felling and invoice complete jobs if its climbing (as I bring in a climbing qual'd groundie) I reckon its enough to confuse HMRC and be left alone to get on with it
  16. What confuses the issue Likeit, is that I use all my own kit, even fuel. I get tasked to an area of the estate, do the work and submit an invoice for the days I do. I'm wondering if I need to alter my invoices to submit purely a cost for the work and not indicate how many days I take to do it? I do not want to go down the employee route with them.

    What phone!!

Husqvarna! Bugger... wrong thread. iPhone 5 and Griifen case.
  18. Great thread. I do 10 days (or less) per month for a local estate. Plus I do my own work, plus I sub for other arb firms in the area. I understood that it had to be 50% time based to then become "employed" but following the link above and doing the employment status indicator it says that I'm self-employed. As it stands I'm far happier being in control of what I do, especially HSE and tools wise. It'll be interesting to hear what my accountant says when I hand in my books.
  19. Bump! Just had my 576xp air filter fail about 4 weeks after fitting. Failed at the same place, a slit appearing on the edge of the centre rear mesh. Any other 576xp owners seeing the same failure point? Thanks for the info Spud, will be ordering a new filter and having a thunk about going for the hi top option with more robust filter.
  20. This is the very reason I've got my house up for sale. Chipper and tipping trailer are parked in the lane behind. But I'm very conscious about the noise when hooking up in the morning, doing the servicing on the chipper and working on my saws. I'm just waiting for someone to complain and make life difficult.
  21. Happy New Year and welcome to the forum. 46, been cutting for 2 years and climbing 6 months. Fitter now than I've ever been. Took all the training and experience I could get and made sure I've got the insurance to back it up. You're not too old and its worth doing it right.
