It isnt supposed to go through it. You use it as a normal cambium saver installed in exactly the same way & retrieved the same way as long as you install the rope through the small ring 1st

it looks pretty simple, fishermans the 2 large rings onto either end of the longer piece of rope. prussic the smaller piece of cord with a double fishermans after threading the small ring on. then the shrink wrap is to mark it up. think thats everything??

Sounds like a very small garden & a fairly simple straight foward job! Bark & wheelchairs dont mix neither do any sort of loose surfaces.
