  3. The problem firewood folk are talking about the cost of roundwood, look at the amount of threads on here about roundwood cost exctra and most if not all are in the firewood forum, so when some one come on to arbtalk what they see is that people are buying in roundwood to process for fire wood, they probally dont know the differance between arb waste type timber and low quality foresrty cord, and they see this site as populated mostly by arborist so there for there is no differance between roundwood and arb type waste so if you got a question about cord price or for sale sell dont post in in the firewood forum but in the forestry one as it a forest product this would help everyone in the long run and help the go public under stand the differance between the sectors.
  4. that is a very low rpm to be running the engine at, it make me think you using the 1000 pto geart but only for 540 rpm at the shaft, i would try 540 pto grear and you engine well need to be at far higher rpm though ps i dont use a mog but this is my exprance with tractors
  5. no they dont lol they have to leave it on site (if it a certified site)
  6. they grew it for timber and them it fell so they trying to cover there costs to make money lol its all in the name of forestry
  7. i agree volvo when i was in auz they had to drill there posts in to the ground and they said that the post holding strength was porportional to the depth of the post in the ground Squared X the size of flat area on the base of the post ie a post 1' in is only 1unit but a 2' is 4unit ie 4times better held in the ground ps that guy is missing one of the more usefull things on that driver the rock spike as they brillent for driving strainers in to the ground enven if there is no rock
  8. i dont use wrist watches, as they got in the way when milking and when fixings machines so i use a pocket watch on the belt, ps the belt doubles us as a set of hobbles for horses, and the leatherman is brillent as it not in the way in you pocket. i use it all the time

  13. i would forget about kit at this point in time as you have said you self you a total novice when it come to forestry. it is very important to have a clear plan for the future and what you what to use the woodland for. a hobby could be lots of things be it the fun of it, shooting or you are wanting to produce some of timber, (fire wood as you have stated). thiss affect hugelly how you go about mannaging it as a well as the location, soil type, wind acess deer exctra, . as each method is very driffernt and you very unlightly be just be using one method but several. I will also back up guss about born to trot he is a very nice man.
