  3. Hi Dan Lovely work I'm sure it would sell at the Coombe craft show Saw is waiting for you cheers steve
  4. Nice pieces ,although the last pics aren't true burrs.they should all be useful Pm myself and muttley if you want to sell
  5. It Has to be done in a pressure pot at about 45psi It's worth a try Ps does anybody have a pressure pot One gut managed to embed a loofah in resin
  6. Hi Really odd request Does anybody near me happen to have a bee or wasp nest.I have this bright idea to set one in clear casting resin and then turn it on a lathe I know its a long shot but I knew where there was one but somebody had it away before I got back to it It might not work but I can try it Look at this pic it gives the idea of what I am trying to do only using wasp nest instead of burr
  7. I'm Happy to share with you Muttley
  8. Could try filling the voids with resin This one has bits of Turquoise in
  9. Keep the wood in as long a plank as possible and seal the ends, pva is ok to use, only cut it to size when the moisture content is somewhere near what you want it to be. Take it indoors to acclimatise when you are ready to use it Do not try to dry it too quickly
  10. Second Delabodge, british hardwoods is the way forward
  11. Polyester resins go brittle when dry and crack real easy, Maybe a flexible polyurethane resin is the way to go
  12. Nice One Dan do you fancy having a stand at the Coombe Abbey craft event
  13. Craft event will be held on 13th September this year We will be looking for vendors who want to sell goods, doesn't have to be just wood but does have to be handmade Should be a good event as Coombe Abbey expect lots of people on an average day in September If you are interested just pm me
  14. Black Locust/False Acacia , turns beautiful even when wet and moves very little as it dries Spalted Beech is best when there is still colour in the wood as well as the spalting, The paler the wood usually the softer it is Yew is great so long as the moisture content isn't too low. When its really dry it is very brittle and hard to turn. 12 to 15% moisture content seems ideal Laburnum is still one of the best woods for turning but is very difficult to dry in larger sizes
