  3. ps the picture is of an ash burr and all the small cracks etc are filled with crushed turquoise

HI i use quite a few Ash burrs and find the best way is to mill half of the burr and use the rest for larger items The burr will never fully dry out in the full burr,I have had burrs which have been stored under cover for 20 years and still haven't dried If you are interested in selling any of the burr I would be interested but another idea is if you wanted me to make something from part of the burr then we could trade for timber how does that sound Have a look at some of my past posts you will see the sort of thing I do [/img]
  5. took about an hour and a half to make easiest way to get into woodturning is to join a local club.Usually costs pennies and clubs like Coombe abbey give free 2 hour lessons to members

  7. Incedentally some trees seem to ripple all the way down the trunk and branches.I don't know for sure but its as though the tree seems to struggle to carry its own weight and buckles I am sure someone on here can put me right on that

  12. Any size will do,I have a chainsaw to cut down if needed but even the small ones are handy
  13. Still looking for burrs of Ash ,Cherry, Laburnum,birch Etc Can anybody help esoecially with the ash Also any rippled timbers
  14. I think the idea of a large garden bench with arms is the best and will last longer than the carved butt
  15. Got sick of doing the normal turned mushrooms so got hold of some contorted willow to make the stems more natural and haven't got time to carve them like Geesaw ( brilliant by the way ).Still turned the heads but they look better

  17. Hi Ian Think that startrite and Record are the way to go.Don't buy Charnwood I did and constantly regret it Where do you sell your stuff buy the way,I sell at craft fairs but they are very hit and miss
  18. Hi Just one comment if you so turn it green then try and turn it in one go ,if you do part of it then leave it a day or two it will move (warp )
  19. Allow at least 1 hour per inch of thickness of timber,but preferably nearer double that
  20. Steam box made from 50mm polystyrene sheets to make a box 4ft long x 10ins x 10ins .Hole in the lower side for a wallpaper stripper and 1/4"" hole for drainage away you go
  21. Great piece of kit,leaves a fantastic finish but not cheap £108.95 Brilliant for windsor seat bases
  22. Heres a pic of my latest project,middle is turned Sycamore with laburnum laths and steam bent elm with copper roving nails for the rim
